Good Book in an Excellent Series
On Blackened Wings does a good job of closing the Chains of the Fallen story arc. I truly hope additional books and story arcs are in the works.
My biggest critique is the pacing. The pace of the rising action is satisfactory consistent with previous installments. The climax to end happened in a questionably short amount of time. I do not recall any glaring loose ends left hanging, but it wouldn't hurt to give readers more insight into how the wider reaching consequences were overcome. The only other critique I have is the lacking character development and / or depth. In my opinion the characters were likeable, which is a trade I would make any time.
A personal frustration of mine is the main character's complete aversion to female companionship. No male that age would be so upset by the attention of an attractive girl. Lilly even tells him she wouldn't (couldn't?) feel jealousy, and he still reacts to each pass with the grace of a ten year old. No male that age is going to turn down so many women because he's in love with an entity in a sword. His friends and sister do him a disservice by letting it go. I admit to thinking about this character flaw far too much while listening to this series.
Regardless, I greatly enjoyed the second book or the second story arc. I would suggest the book to anyone who has completed book 4, and highly suggest fantasy fans enjoy all the series has to offer.

Good series but...
The story line is great and has plenty of adventures but the female characters all sound the same and all very whiney the depth of the narration is surface only at best so I really felt no connection with other characters except Damien and his sister whose voice kept sounding like other female characters. I still look forward to the next book in the series
