Summary

Solian ata’yar. Dauv ata’yar. Nur temen vie’ryn valana.

Live as one. Die as one. For those we’ve lost.

The city of Kingspass burns and Calen Bryer’s world has been shaken to its core. With Valerys at his side, Calen must battle his demons and push forward. There are people who need him, people who need what he must become, and he will not let them stand alone.

In Loria, Ella struggles to understand the ancient power that flows through her veins. The world is changing around her, and she is changing with it. Her journey has only just begun.

Thousands of miles away, beneath the mountains of Lodhar, assassins move in the dark as the kingdoms of the Dwarven Freehold ready themselves for war. Not everything is as it seems. Dahlen Virandr and Belina Louna have no choice but to unravel the mysteries of the mountain before everything crumbles around them.

Meanwhile, in Al’Nasla, Rist Havel learns the true cost of becoming an Imperial Battlemage. He will question every truth he has ever been told. He has never been a fighter, never been the one people look to, but he will fight for those he loves no matter what it takes.

With the Uraks ravaging the towns and villages of the North, Alina and Dayne Ateres prepare their people for war. They have been beneath a Lorian boot for too long. Valtara will be free. The wyvern of House Ateres will fly again, by blade and by blood.

As the continent of Epheria descends into war and chaos, Kallinvar struggles to come to terms with an immense loss. Despite the hole in his heart, he has no choice but to stand and fight. The Shadow is coming, and the Knights of Achyron are the only ones powerful enough to hold back the tide.

Unbeknownst to all, another force is rising—a force long thought tamed. The balance of power is about to shift, and Epheria will never be the same. The Blood Moon is rising.

Took hold and never let go

This series just keeps on getting better with each entry, the journey that it takes the characters on has you gripped to each story line.

I definitely have my favourite characters in the cast and felt at times I just wanted to get back to one characters current happenings when I was taken elsewhere. And perhaps my one light criticism (and maybe caused by audiobook format) but I struggled to remember who was who, and what/where some people were. But all the arcs have their place and as a whole I wouldn’t change a thing.

Would definitely be a great series to run through from start to finish. I’m now sat here waiting for what sequels may come !

Fantasy writing at its best

This is a must read series. The story is fantastic, the characters relatable, and the performance spot on.
The story flows from one book to the next, including the novellas. Each book leaves you wanting more. This is one of the best epic fantasy series I have read.

Brilliant!

This is the first book in the series that I listened to (having read the previous ones digitally) and it was just amazing.

The narrator was incredible bringing the story to life and did a brilliant job.

Highly, highly recommend.

Absolutely Brilliant

Ryan Cahill is truly an amazing author. You can even tell the narrator enjoyed his read of this series because he reads it with so much passion. One of the few series I'm willing to reread over and over again yearly.

Perfect Narrator, Wrenching Battles, 5 stars

EXCELLENT NARRATOR, and as the author said "I've slept about as much as an Elf" while writing this. Same goes for reading and listening this book....I too have slept as much as an Elf. its a page turner. Emotionally invested in the characters, wolves, dragon and a couple of different "animals" that aid our crew. Many battles are edge of your seat emotionally. I look forward to Book 4....Of Empires and Dust. 5 stars

Ryan Cahill knows how to wait for the right moment

As many have said, this is the best book so far in the series. I love how you never can really figure out what's going to happen next. Additionally, Ryan Cahill does an excellent job of waiting for the right moment. He specifically doesn't over describe many things in order to introduce them as soon as Calin learns it/ of it. This makes the series much more forgiving and attractive because the reader never gets overwhelmed with information, and the surprise and interest are much better. One example of this is how dragon on dragon fights don't happen until a chapter in this book. This was probably my favorite chapter, and had the most impact on me, leaving me shocked and on the edge of my seat. I also liked all the varying characters throughout the series. Most of the characters are different, likable, and interesting. The only character I didn't like was Ella for some reason, I find her annoying. I won't spoil anything, but I feel like she developed as a character late to the party and had too much catching up to do. Therefore, it was kind of ridiculous when she became so strong and... ugly. Other than that, this is one of the best fantasy books I've read. As another person said, I found Ryan Cahill's prose to be amazing in this third installment.

GOATed!

Best fantasy series of the decade so far! Absolutely loved it. I mean, I just cruised through this TOME of a book in 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute. Narrator is super perfect. One note the author: coruscate is a good word but PLEASE use it like 3-4 times not 20. But otherwise an absolute gem 9.75/10.

Best credit that I have spent on Audible.

If I could somehow forget everything that happened in the story and listen to it again as if it was the first time I was hearing it. I would definitely do it. I'm just going to say it Ryan Cahill is one of the best writers in this genre right now. If you like writers like David Estes, and others you're going to really enjoy this book. He has built a world that is compelling big and very different takes on the fantasy world. The magic in here is also well-done, the characters are very strong. Strong enough for me to be pissed off at some of their choices,. I looking at you Rist (so smart and stupid at the same time). Action from start to finish, with plenty of character building and diving into the lore. Still has a ways to go, I hope we get the next one in the series soon. Great narration. I almost want to start the book over again and I just finished it. So good. Well done, well worth a credit.

Hoping for an ending but surprised

I thought the book is very well thought out bringing stories together that seem like they were related. You feel the emotions of the characters. I know there will be more books and can't wait until the end.

Only complaint was the trip through the burnt lands. It took too long.
