Racism is not a simple matter of good people versus bad. In White Fragility, Robin DiAngelo explained how racism is a system into which all white people are socialised. She also made a provocative claim: that white progressives cause the most daily harm to people of colour. In Nice Racism, her follow-up work, she explains how they do so. Drawing on her background as a sociologist and over 25 years working as an antiracist educator, she moves the conversation forward.
Writing directly to white people as a white person, DiAngelo identifies many common racial patterns and breaks down how well-intentioned white people unknowingly perpetuate racial harm. These patterns include rushing to prove that we are 'not racist', downplaying white advantage, romanticising Black, Indigenous and other peoples of colour, pretending white segregation 'just happens', expecting BIPOC people to teach us about racism, carefulness and shame. She challenges the ideology of Individualism and explains why it is okay to generalise about white people and demonstrates how white people who experience other oppressions still benefit from systemic racism. Writing candidly about her own missteps and struggles, she models a path forward, encouraging white listeners to continually face their complicity and embrace courage, lifelong commitment and accountability.

Essential read for all white people who have any interest in being anti-racist.
Robins clarity, honesty and ability to challenge with compassion is refreshing and enlightening. This book offers knowledge, wisdom and clear guidance on how to embed anti-racism into our lives.

Should be mandatory…
Excellent excellent excellent
An antidote to the anti-woke narratives..
This book exposes how much of a deceptive bully nice racism is and essentially, suggests ways to confront and combat it.
Should be compulsory reading in all organisations of work, governance and study committed to break the forces of racism.

necessary reading
if you take nothing further from this book, please acknowledge this: you don't have to be A Racist to be Racist. I think coming to terms with this fact will help you gain responsibility for your behaviour, to help you be a better person in the future.

Hard read but very true
This is an essential read for anyone
Serious about anti-racism. In this book, the author really makes you reflect on your past experiences and actions. It was a hard read due to the experiences I’ve had personally, but it’s essential to talk about these. I hope that people will read this, reflect on their actions and do better for the future.

Controversial
I read the first book and understood that I need to listen more.
At the end of the second book I feel very different. Hurt. Made to feel racist just because I am white. I can’t change my upbringing. This book has made me feel that it is unsafe to talk at all to people of colour in case I get it wrong. I feel that it has the risk of increasing the gap between groups. It is very accusative of white people.
