They say that if you want to live a long and happy life, don’t support Newcastle United. So join me, as I lead you on a journey through another hall of shame, littered with players who were paid far too much, and who gave the fans far too little in return. If you need an antidote to the many times Newcastle United have ever let you down and made you think "We'll laugh about this seven-to-three defeat in a few years", then this audiobook will go a long way to healing those wounds.

Misconceptions have stalked Andrew Cole like a hatchet-man defender determined to cut him down to size. In the world of modern-day football, his reserved demeanour was often interpreted as surly intransigence. Alongside an aptitude for goalscoring, it was widely believed, ran an attitude problem. In Fast Forward, a candid and inspirational autobiography, Cole finally presents his side of the story.

Story
Peter Schmeichel is an undisputed giant of the global game - and One: My Autobiography is his story. As a serial winner and larger-than-life character with Manchester United and Denmark, he rivalled Gordon Banks and Lev Yashin as the world's greatest goalkeeper. Sir Alex Ferguson, having paid just £505,000 to sign him in 1991, hailed him as 'the bargain of the century'. Schmeichel would become a key figure in United's successes during the ensuing decade, starting with a first domestic league title in more than a quarter of a century.

Story
The Denmark side of the 1980s was one of the last truly iconic international football teams. Although they did not win a trophy, they claimed something much more important and enduring: glory, and in industrial quantities. They were a bewitching fusion of futuristic attacking football, effortless Scandinavian cool, and laid-back living. They played like angels and lived like you and I, and they were everyone’s second team in the mid-1980s.

Story
An absolutely essential book for every modern football fan, about the development of Premier League tactics, published to coincide with 25 years of the competition. Back in 1992, English football was stuck in the dark ages, emerging from a five-year ban from European competition. The game was physical, bruising and attritional, based on strength over speed, aggression over finesse. It was the era of the midfield general, reducers, big men up front and getting it in the mixer; 4-4-2 was the order of the day.

Summary
Did Wayne Fereday ruin your life? Was Silvio Maric directly responsible for your high dentist bills due to the constant gnashing and grinding of your molars? Did Billy Askew's hair give you nightmares, or did the merest mention of Alain Boumsong's name have the same effect as the aftermath of a Vindaloo? Then this is the book you've been waiting for.
Relive all your least favorite Newcastle United moments by taking a journey back through the labyrinth of frustration, disillusionment, and failure that is Newcastle United's worst ever players. Grimace, cringe, and wince as you take a trip down the derelict end of memory lane, through a history of Newcastle United's most inept, incompetent, and overpaid exponents of the beautiful game. Players who panicked whenever the ball came within 20 yards of them, players who would struggle to make the bench for St. Joseph's School under-sevens team and players who surprised you by managing to put their boots on the right feet.
If you've ever watched a Newcastle United player and wondered how they managed to turn professional and you didn't, if you were left speechless as they were allowed to continue spreading their misery well into the second half or dumbfounded at the fact they'd managed to convince someone to pay them a wage to stumble around the field and offer nothing more to the cause than the corner flag, you'll find them all here.

Depressing
It's a short listen but an entertaining one. It was narrated well and in a Geordie accent. Which should be the only acceptable accent given the subject matter.
It's not something I will listen to again but i was entertained while it was playing.
If a Toon fan listens to this book they will be entertained and then a little depressed by all of the missteps. If a Maccum listens to this they will be entertained by all of the missteps.
