Toby Gutteridge was only 24 when he was shot through the neck while operating behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. He survived despite not breathing for at least 20 minutes. Back in the UK, doctors recommended that his life support machine be switched off, but with the defiant spirit that would define his recovery, Toby pulled through.
Now quadriplegic, capable of movement only with his head, Toby has rebuilt his life. Inspirational
This was hard to listen to as you always try to block out what could happen, bury the head in the sand. I feel Party ashamed for thinking such things but for most of the book I wondered why he didn’t just end his life and stop the suffering. Thankfully his mind is stronger than the average human and he’s dedicated his life to helping others. What an incredible inspiring human.

The Epitome of human spirit
Toby’s “Never Will I Die” is undoubtably the most awe inspiring story I have encountered, and I will miss the daily listen deeply.
It’s a story of truth, and the real truth is dark and cutting, with no room for poetic niceties or false positives to indirectly inspire the reader. He simply talks the truth with a combination of bluntness and extreme dark humour. How many people do you know who went on the piss with his mates, but failed to account for his ventilator battery life ending, and almost him with it?!
Toby takes you with him on a journey to the cliff edge of life, and the grim reality of how easy it is step off when you give up all hope of a life worth living.
This isn’t an off-the-shelf typical comeback story we see all too often from former SF operators. This is a living masterpiece in how a person who is practically left with just a mind, can embody a spirit of not just survival, but a spirit to attack life with everything they have no matter what it takes, or how long.
Toby is so humble, it’s iconic. He has so many amazing philosophies for life and his spiritual force can be felt throughout each chapter. In his words” If the mind can conceive it, the man can achieve it” This book shows us all how true that quote is.
I’ve read hundreds of books on people and performance. This is a standalone effort that will get anyone from a bad place to a good place, or from good to great!

What an inspirational guy.
Im always inspired by the people who serve their country, hit the highest level of fitness and after very serious injury, carry on motivating themselves to achieve many great things. After reading this book I felt that I have nothing to moan about (despite my own minor disability). Well done.

This is a great listen.
