Summary

Eigentlich ist das Ende der Zeiten schon lange gekommen. Im zweiten Monat des Jahres 1420 sollte es sein, an einem Montag nach dem Festtag der heiligen Scholastica, so jedenfalls hatten es die Chiliasten mit ihrer Lehre vom Tausendjährigen Reich prophezeit. Dafür geht es aber zwei Jahre später noch überaus munter zu auf unserer Erde, auch wenn das Morden, Sterben und Wehklagen aus der Perspektive des inquisitorischen Narrenturms schon wie der Kampf der Mächte des Bösen am Vortag des Jüngsten Gerichts erscheint. So jedenfalls erscheint es dem jungen Abenteurer und Medicus Reinmar von Bielau, der durch seine Wanderschaft auf der Flucht vor Verfolgern und der Suche nach der Liebe durch die mittelalterliche Landschaft streift.

Durch seine Begegnungen und Erlebnisse entwirft der Erzähler vor dem Leser ein Panorama der Zeit, das nicht zuletzt auch auf überaus gekonnte Art und Weise mit den Versatzstücken des historischen, des Ritterromans und der Fantasy-Literatur zu spielen versteht!
