About this listen

Poirot actor David Suchet reads some of the most beautiful books of the Bible - the poetry books of the Old Testament from Job to Song of Songs.

Ever since he became a Christian at the age of forty, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the whole Bible. Starting with the writings of the Apostle Paul to accompany his BBC1 documentary, 'In the Footsteps of St Paul', Suchet now turns his attention to the poetical books of the Old Testament, Job to Song of Songs. This portion of the Bible includes the famous Psalms of David - some of the most deeply emotional and beautiful passages in biblical literature.

Scripture is taken from the Holy Bible, New International Version, 2011 translation.

Alive

Alive and connecting rendering of scripture. Nothing robotic. The way my heart hears it.

Beautiful

To hear some of the most profound thoughts ever written wrapped in beautiful prose and poetry narrated by someone with such a beautiful, mellifluous and rich voice is a sheer joy and only enhances the power of the written word. Glorious.

LOVELY AS EVER BUT THE TRACKING DOES NOT WORK

I have loved completing 'the Bible in a year', read by David Suchet, and wanted to follow up by listening to aspects of the Bible in larger sections. Unfortunately, the tracking does not appear work on this particular download; so, everytime I have to close down, it jumps back to the beginning of the whole thing. Then, when trying to find my place next time, some way into it; I have to literally hold down the fast forward button for AGES as not even the jump by chapter function seems to work... and it's not good for my MP3 player's longevity either. The same issue appears also appears on my computer.
So disappointing, as I love the Psalms but haven't even managed to complete Job yet, due to this problem. Audible, please advise.

Missing chapters

I started listening to the recording of Psalms from Ps 130 onwards and noticed that Ps 134, 136, 142 were omitted. Ps 139 was in a wrong place. Then I started listening from the beginning and Ps 1 was omitted. I simply gave up... Performance excellent but what good is that when edited so poorly.
