Summary

Mingo McCloud, Honolulu’s hottest - well, only - forensic accountant, has an amazing career working on the Hawaiian Islands’ high-profile criminal cases. Too bad, he can’t finesse his private life with the same panache.

His chronic attraction to bad guys comes to a skidding halt, when he meets Francois Aumary, a former green beret, and man of many secrets. Currently working for the governor’s office, Francois’s past life includes a pre-teen son, Ferric, who, like his father, becomes a major part of Mingo’s life.

Meanwhile, as Mingo handles missing and murdered people’s cases, his life takes bizarre turns. From a woman from his past claiming they were once married, there’s his mother, whose taste in men is worse than Mingo’s. Her new beau thinks he’s the lost king of Hawaii, and will stop at nothing to reclaim his throne. There’s also her mania for avocado green kitchen gadgets, and her garish, animal-print outfits.

Then, there’s the attorney Mingo works for: Benny Leonard, Korean by birth, and now a devout, Orthodox Jew. Thanks to his adoptive parents, Benny is plain nuts.

Weaving in and out of his and Mingo’s lives is a man who may just be the worst thing on two legs. Kaolin Grace does terrible things to both of them, even giving Mingo and Francois a felonious gift on their wedding day.

But that’s not all. Ferric is anxious for his two dads to get hitched, and worried that things like a haunted bridge, crazy criminal cases, and his mom wanting custody of him again might put a damper on things. As for Mingo, he’ll do whatever it takes to have a happy life, and a future without yucky green accessories.

Lots of twists and turns

This book surprised me in so many ways, I thought I knew what was going to happen but then the story took off in another way. Sometimes it got better, but there was at least one instance where I'd wanted it to go another way, though it all turned out right in the end. The book starts with a bang and there's a lot of steamy times - a lot! This didn't take away from the action though.

Mingo is very likeable and I kept rooting for him and I frequently wished that the people around him treated him better. The fact that he's a forensic accountant felt fresh and interesting, a different take om the detective genre.

I'm looking forward to more audiobooks in this series as I'm planning on listening to them.

John Solo's narration is, as always, excellent.

HOT, HOT, HOT and great audio performance!

I love audiobooks performed by John Solo but I’d never read a book by AJ Llewellyn, so when I was able to request a review copy of this audiobook, I jumped on it fast. 😊

This is a collection of 4 short novellas and I enjoyed all of them. Mingo McCloud is a forensic accountant and I’m pretty sure I’ve never read a book where the MC has that occupation. While I’m not sure I ever fully understood what he did as a forensic accountant, I fully enjoyed the mysteries he got involved in. However, I think what this series really is about is Mingo’s various relationships.

His ex keeps popping up and causing trouble; an attorney he works for off and on helps provide interesting cases to solve and Mingo’s forever love is a man of many talents and secrets. There is never a dull moment for Mingo and his associates.

I hope the rest of the series comes to audio because I’d love to listen to more of John Solo’s version of Mingo. I almost forgot to mention the hotness factor. While there are great stories in this collection there is also LOTS and LOTS of HOT sexy time and Mingo and Francois don’t mind the possibility of getting caught loving on each other. 😊

Mingo and his love story…

This is a bundle that follows Mingo through his adventures with criminals and finding love. While Mingo’s profession is safe, his partners bring on the heat. I enjoyed the journey.

Four short stories in one!

If you like a lot of sexy time this won’t disappoint! There is a thread through the books and the story is ok but it is interrupted a lot…
And I would’ve liked to get to know the characters more, with their clothes on.

John makes a great job with voicing the characters.

So much fun!

Mingo & Lelani & Benny, I love all the crazy characters & crazier shenanigans they get up to, especially Mingo - so much fun & lots of heat. Each 'job' & adventure with Francois (among others) is wilder than the last! I can't wait to see how their story plays out!
John Solo does a phenomenal job with all the Hawaiian words & wild names. He makes it seem so easy to bring such wonderful stories and people to life for his listeners! Excellent!

Hot in Hawaii

These books are steamy! If you're not into on-page sex and lots of it, I won't recommend this. For me the storyline gota little drowned in all the sex and that's a shame because it's a good mystery in every book.

Otherwise it's a fun ride getting to know Mingo, François and their crazy family and friends.

John Solo did an amazing job as usual and he's the reason I bumped it up to three stars.

I received a complementary copy of this audiobook for an honest review.

Not feeling it!

I was hoping for some mysteries with a little M/M romance thrown in, but what I got was a lot of graphic sex that went on for way longer than necessary with a little mystery thrown in. I'm more than happy with 2 or 3 sex scenes in an MM mystery, but with this book the sex overshadowed what were, good, interesting mystery cases.
The MC Michael 'Mingo' McCloud is not the brightest tool in the box, he's gullible, and led by his D**k. I didn't find him a fun or likable character, in fact I wanted to shake him a few times for not seeing what was in front of him.
One of Mingo's lovers, Francoise, is black and there are a lot of cringy, outdated, unnecessary descriptors used when the MC is talking/thinking about him, like the use of: caramel & chocolate as descriptions of his skin and eyes, and lines like 'I reached out and grabbed his big black arm'... which was unnecessary as the author never noted the skin color with the character's white or Hawaiian lovers...and so there were parts of the novellas that a bit clumsily written.
John Solo is a very good narrator for a neutral reading, however, this story had a load of quirky characters and they all had the same voice. I would have loved some accents to give the story more life.
