Summary
Lynn Walker watched her dad, John, deteriorate from Miami undercover narcotics agent to drug smuggler, from protective father to monster—a very charming monster. By the time she was in high school, her dad was in prison for smuggling 12,000 pounds of marijuana. There, John made a connection with a powerful Colombian drug lord. Within months of being paroled, John waltzed back into his kids' lives, dishing out pure, Colombian cocaine to Lynn and launching her brother's coke-dealing career. After a few years of abusing coke together, Lynn lost everything and was forced to choose between her life and her father.
Jaw-dropping, emotionally raw and heart-breaking, Midnight Calling: A Memoir of a Drug Smuggler's Daughter is a story about family bonds, addiction and the price of hanging on when it's time to let go.

listening to Lynn's life story provides a glimpse into what we don't know about the lives of people all around us....and how these seemingly bound-to-end- ugly stories reveal that people can and do survive and thrive....and live and nurture renewed lives with so much positivity....thanks for sharing....

Truest description of cocaine overuse ive heard
Great, honest, unembelished story from someone who has clearly experienced the issues discussed.
Not the usual crap written by someone looking to show off about how cool or hard they "were" an honest interesting engaging book.
Much credit to the author

I couldn't stop listening!
I absolutely loved this book! The way Lynn Walker tells the true story of her childhood, abandonment by her father, addiction, and overcoming it is fascinating! After quite a struggle, it's nice to hear a success story! I literally could not stop listening, couldn't wait to hear what would happen next - I often found myself unable to leave my car until I finished listening.
The narrator cleverly does voices of different people. Her narration during Lynn's lowest points of addiction was particularly moving to me - I could feel her pain and despair and elation when her craving was satisfied.
I can't wait for her next book, Breaking Midnight! I wholeheartedly recommend!

Such a powerful book
I really enjoyed this memoir it is a great story of overcoming life when the cards are stacked against you. Lynn walker put her life out on paper and let us see her flawed self as only a good author can. I would have never picked this book up if it was not gifted to me but I am glad it was. I recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with addiction or if you know anyone who has. I will pass this story forward as I feel I can help someone out. Thank you Lynn for sharing you story with us.

Brutally honest
This is a beautiful testament and legacy of two women, the author and her mother, and written incredibly well. This is about her, not her father.
Like so many other children abandoned by their father, the author battles wanting his love and acknowledgment of her life. She follows dark places at an incredibly young age. She is brutally honest in the choices she made. Her mother always wanting her to succeed, never gave up on her, and practiced tough love.
I am truly amazed that Ms. Walker has lived to tell her story. I'm humbled and am a better person after reading her memoir. Through hard work lives can be changed.
