Summary

In a world where "human" is only the beginning, and people can become something more, some will rise above, and become superheroes. But for every hero, there must be a villain. What drives someone to become a supervillain, and take on the heroes of the world? What would the life of someone who has accepted that they are no longer part of "normal" society and devotes themselves to their own dreams and goals be like? What if a supervillain decided to write his memoirs, and speak about all these things?

This is the memoir of the Supervillain known to the world as Iceblade. It chronicles his achievements and his failures, his loves and his losses. Learn about the theft of the Mona Lisa, the subjugation of Lady Victory, and the slaughter of the Holy Order of the Word. Hear for the first time about the death of Bytegeist. All from the point of view of the man himself.

The setting is a world of superheroes and sci-fi, and our main character, who may not be the most powerful out there, but is willing to do whatever it takes to win. No matter the cost. He is not a hero. He is not an anti-hero. He is not a vigilante. He is a villain, and knows what he is. He is amoral but ethical.

Rated R: Definite language, violence, gore, sex, and all the horrible things that can happen in the world. If you have triggers, consider this your warning.

Great Story

The story is well-written and well-delivered. Iceblade's personality is also pretty cool. I just wish he was a bit more... Villainous.

Oh, he certantly do Villainous things. But only ever to people who richly deserves it. (Casualties aside)

Which makes him closer to an anti-hero than a real Villain at times. (Even the people who goes against him that he kills is somehow evil, rather than rightious. And he clearly HAS morals.)

I also love the back-story and logically slow build-up. He's not overpowered like many protagonists in this type stories is, and has to struggle to overcome hardships. (Tho at times it feels like things are going a bit TOO smooth for him, but at least the author makes it seem logical.)

That aside, the story IS truly brilliant. And I will be checking out the sequels.

Too much sex.

Just to get it out there, there's far too much sex in this book. It feels like a harem book at times and I feel it detracts from the book.
That aside is enjoyed this book. Good action and an interesting character, plus it's nice to James e Super Villain who is actually evil and not a 'good guy who made bad choices'.
Sex aside I'd recommend this to fans of Super Hero stories.

Basically how to be a supervillain

Basically how to be a supervillain. There were a lot of lists and explanations at the start so it took too long to get into the story, but there wasn't much plot anyway. Mostly quite dull but also graphic in a few places.
The main character has no redeeming qualities, he says not all villains are evil but he actually is pretty awful.
Narrator is ok but I had to listen on a much higher speed.

An interesting thing.

usually, with this kind of story (from the villians perspective) the audience is shown a redeemable bad guy who doesn't really do anything bad. that way nobody is offended and hollywood doesn't have to get creative.
THIS IS NOT THIS BOOK.
in this truly unique and new piece of literature. the villian is a villian and yet you find yourself rooting for him. he makes sense and doesn't pretend to moral superiority. he's a survivor and is good at what he does. he is more human than any hero and thus, more relatable(isn't that just something to consider?!).
i won't pretend I didn't cringe a little at some pf the choices he made and what he did when he got (justafiably) angry. but overall it was a fantastic story with interesting characters, twisty turny plot, a kick-ass set of powers and a katana anybody would want.

looking forward to the next one. hopefully it will be more of the same!

p.s. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and have left this honest review of my own accord and volition.

Great listen!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator really enhanced the story - his voice was perfect for this.

Really enjoyed the fact that this was lots of bite-sized stories. Enjoyed the majority of the memoirs, but please do take note that this is NSFW (Not Safe For Work) ... Unless like me you wear headphones and can be discreet about it ;D

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Loved it! Loved it!! Loved it!!!

I love a little super-hero in my fantasy/science-fiction listens so this book hit on all levels with me. I loved it!!

The story is told from the perspective of the supervillain and we get the joy of discovering how he came to be. I seriously need to tip my hat to the author for this. The genesis of this supervillain was very inventive and it made his villainy ways, well, understandable.

The narrator has a certain grit to his voice that absolutely endeared me to this performance. It was pretty special.

This book did have one flaw though and that was the last chapter. Stop before that one. You can thank me later.

Promissing until the halfway mark!

Yeah so the headline says it all really. At about half way through this story it just starts building up speed on a downward spiralling trajectory. Even the quality of the writing starts to degrade. The author at times seeming to forget that he is writing a memoir type tale. On the whole this story feels like its been half finished by the author and put aside for a while and then taken up again. Problem being that the latter part doesn't come across as meshing with the first half of the story.

Went from a solid +3.X rating to a 2/5 rating. Its a quality question really. I think the author can do better.

The narration is average, no real negativs nor any memorable positives.

I rather enjoyed the authors Rules Free VRMMO series while his Dungeon series was a dud for me. Then again I really enjoy his Into The Black series.
So hit and miss I guess. Adding this author to my coin toss list.

Should change the title to Memoirs of a Rapist

Don't waste your time or money with this, for lack of better word, crap.

Almost quit listening, I barely finished it. I did, however enjoy this book at the start, but as it progressed it became boring and predictable.

I doubt I'll be purchasing other books by this author.

Not Even Finished and I Want To Review It!

I am more than halfway through this book and I don't want it to end. I cannot say enough great things about the story and the narrator. I would be willing to watch a movie or tv show of this story. The narrator provides enough distinction between each character and gives life to the character Ice Blade.

This book is such a unique take on the superhero/supervillain story and shows how a person's path can lead them to either good or bad, they aren't just born one way or another. I liked that the story included superheroes who were actually really bad people despite the label of "hero". The same as our main villain isn't always a bad person.

Please, Please, Please, PLEASE!! Read this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have and I will be truly sad when I get to the end. I hope that the author has more stories out there that I can hunt down.

Great book!

Engaging story and solid narration!

The story of a young man who gains powers and how he copes, adjusts, and grows with them.

This is the story of an unapologetic villain - well written and narrated, but villainous.

The negative reviews have more to do with people being offended by the MC's choices than quality of writing and narration. If you can't handle villainous choices don't read a book about a villain - and don't smear it because you didn't like it. (you can tell some of them were reviews from people who don't care for the genera, but got the book for free)

This is an interesting look into the behind the scenes world of supers.

fun and well worth a credit

One is never certain of hero or villin.

This is science fiction at its best told in a convincing story that keeps you listening.

good story with a few problematic issues

while this story was overall quite enjoyable, the unnecessarily graphic sex scenes in an otherwise good story were quite jarring and didn't fit the tone of the rest of the piece.

Good Start Horrible Follow Through

I am a huge fan of Dark Fantasy and am equally a fan of Evil Main Characters. However such an MC must have a code of conduct that sets them apart from true evil. And in my opinion such a code must include a strong dislike of rape for any such character to be a legitimate MC. That or the MC was raised in a society where rape is acceptable, but this such MC must come to see the error of such actions to work. Otherwise they are just plain Evil and deserve no sympathy. From the actions of This MC in regards to being a rapist and a slaver I must conclude that he is just plain Evil and undeserving of having his story told any further. I can forgive much but not the rape of innocents as is the case of the mob bosses daughter.

VERY INTERESTING!!!

This story tells the tale of the upcoming super villain Iceblade and his rise to prominence. I enjoyed how his journey had its ups and downs. The narrator did a great job too.

Don't expect an anit-hero

This book was interesting and it was for sure following the life of a villain. There are some dark moments that are true to the character however it would have been nice for a bit more development of his sister. She seemed a bit too lax with some of the stuff he did. I received a free copy for review.
