Summary
For the first time, a blistering, highly charged account from the man known as 'Marine A' who was at the centre of the controversial murder of a wounded Taliban fighter. His case led to an unprecedented wave of public support which raised over £800,000 to fund his appeal. The nerve-shredding situations Sgt. Blackman operated within, under sustained attack for long periods, living in the unrelenting horror of a theatre of war, took their toll mentally and physically.

Stitched up
He was stitched up! The government trained him to kill then punished him for doing what he was trained to do

Heartfelt
The story behind this royal is incredible, though the narrator mispronounces many military terms, names and phrases which can be cringy.

tryanical establishment verses soldier A
horrible chance circumstance, one moment , one decision and fight for fair justice.
UK shame of establishment draconian MOD treatment of front line troops. Without the fair and the free of this country to speak up where would they be !

As real as it gets
As a veteran myself battling my own mental demons I can relate to Sgt Blackman on many things! The feeling of being let down by the MOD a story many of us feel. I felt I knew Al even though I have never actually met him and I'm so pleased he has come out of all this with his head held high.
My only criticism is not aimed at the story but more the narrator. I wish they had someone who had served narrate the story as many of the military names given to things or places served were pronounced incorrectly which unless you served you would not notice but its something that did annoy me.
I would certainly recommend this to all those interested in the struggles many go through after giving our all to our country.
Lastly to Claire, I know she won't see this but what an absolutely amazing person you are, steadfast throughout I salute you, God bless.

Hoofing
I had heard various versions of this story, it was refreshing to hear it from SGT Blackman himself. His humble, honest account of the incidents leading to this story is a must read / listen. The fact that we are all human, and we all have feelings, and no one is invincable is forgotten by some. The author explains his thoughts and fears through his challenges, he is a pure inspiration, and gives hope to those who are facing difficult times. His true love and respect to his wife is apparent, which in effect helped Marine A to his release. PER MARE PER TERAM

Fantastic
This is a fantastic book of a man who did the deeds of his government, only to be staged in the back by the same people we was sent to fight for

Honest Account
After watching the original video footage I was sure that there was a story behind what happened. As a veteran of Afghanistan I remember the rules of engagement we had to follow, this made us hesitant in life threatening situations sometimes. We lived in fear of what might happen to us back home if we got it wrong. Alexander was tried in a situation back at home where decisions were made about his future without the understanding of the pressure he was under. This has sadly led to completely wrongful convictions. Thank you for the account. Alexander.

Good to hear his story
Good to hear Sgt Blackmans story in his own words. The audiobook is let down though as it repeats sentances as well as mangles others. Should have been proof listened! Thats why the performance rsting is poor. The story does jump around a bit in the timeline and i think it would have benefitted in being more linear. That aside its a detailed account of a case that never should have been.
One thing missing from this which i find curious is the radio comms that Rob Driscol mentions in Lethal Shot and how that played into the situation. I suspect Sgt Blackman was not trying to throw higher command under the bus but its an intdresting omission.

Fantastic listen
Great insight into this particularly difficult time for our armed forces and great to hear it told from his point of view. The only thing that let this audio version down it that the narrator, in places miss pronounces a variety of military terminology. Maybe most wont notice but after 17 years in it just takes the edge of an otherwise fantastic book.
