About this listen
When a man’s headless body is discovered in Paris’ Saint-Martin Canal, Maigret is quick to answer the call. It is in this very neighborhood that he meets a strangely taciturn woman who runs a cafe. Her husband is away on a trip - or so she says. As is often the case, Maigret soon learns that there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Excellent Maigret
I’ve enjoyed all the Maigret I’ve heard or read - but this is the best so far.

Maigret is so human.
Another astonishing 3.5 hours of literary genius. Knowing nothing of Simenon's own life, I'd like to believe that he was half as human and at least one tenth as humane as his magnificent creation. Maigret is one of the most genuinely human literary creations that I've ever experienced in reading thousands of novels. Gareth Armstrong's beautiful baritone brings him warmly to life on every page and in every phrase and word.

One of the best Maigret stories.
Complex plot and perhaps the most brilliant descriptive writing I have encountered in a Maigret story. The inventiveness is also quite brilliant and almost intoxicating as it paints the most beautiful images of French life and draws you in as your mind pictures each scene. Gareth Armstrong is, as usual, superb as the narrator. For me, I picture Michael Gambon’s face to go with Gareth’s voice and I have the perfect Maigret.
