Summary

He needs an image makeover; she needs a mojo upgrade. A new lessons-in-seduction hockey romance from Wall Street Journal best-selling author Sarina Bowen.

After I’m arrested for throwing a raucous party, my hockey team says I have an image problem. And I need to fix it, stat.

Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances.

Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She's distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.

But when management threatens my summer vacation, I grudgingly agree to Vera’s unusual proposal: She’ll give me an image makeover. But in return, she wants lessons in the art of seduction.

It sounds a little nutty, but I know a good opening when I hear it. Besides, it’s not like I’ll ever fall for her....

Fun series

This is such a great series and I love seeing more of the players find their HEA. There’s really no angst or drama in these books it’s just good times with friends and sexy times with lovers.

Loved this

Something about this went beyond. I loved Vera and Ian. Great characters, challenges and their ways to overcome. Ian was so sweet under all his masculinity. My new book boyfriend.

Hard to go wrong with Sarina Bowen

I always enjoy a Sarina Bowen story, and this series is one good book after another! Not crazy about the male narrator, so I probably should have just gotten the ebook instead. The female narration was good.

Another wonderful Brooklyn Bruisers book!

This is yet another fun and steamy read by Sarina Bowen. I've enjoyed every book in her Brooklyn Bruisers series. This book overlaps with the story of Neil Drake and Charli in Shenanigans, this time highlighting the blossoming romance between Vera, Neil's stylist, and his fellow hockey teammate, Ian Crikey.

Vera and Ian seem like opposites, with her stylized perfected look and his tattooed body and lack of care to his clothing, hair, and overall appearance. Ian needs an image makeover after a series of events have management upset with his negative coverage in the media while Vera needs to overcome insecurities after her last boyfriend left her feeling inadequate in the bedroom. Ian struggles with dyslexia and never-ending criticism from his former hockey star dad/family while Vera struggles with insecurities from her bad past relationship.

Enter their agreement - she will work on cleaning up Ian's image while he will give her lessons in seduction and sex. Ian is more than willing to show Vera what a truly passionate woman she is. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. Their slow progression of attraction and outright lust had them seeking each other out for many steamy interludes! The banter was hilarious, and the descriptions of Italy made me long for an international trip.

Both Vera and Ian face some of their past baggage while transforming themselves both physically and emotionally. The various plot lines kept me enthralled throughout (and I loved seeing more of the Neil/Charli romance!). Vera and Ian fairly sizzled off the page. Yet another great book by Sabrina!

Uninspired Rom Com saved by excellent narration

This was a cute, easy listen. It gets pretty steamy in parts. For a work day listen, it had me blushing a bit. I wasn't crazy about their chemistry. I didn't experience that push/pull emotional attachment so I gave this a 3 star rating. The characters were both likable so the vibes I got were throwing two random, but good people together in this friend group and give them their story. This was my first time reading a story in this series, so that could also be why I felt the detachment. The narrators made this story the most pleasant experience. As always, Joe Arden is a "fan yourself" listen. Was this worth a credit? Probably not- but it is a perfect book to take advantage of during an audiobook sale. I would give this author another listen in the future.

Vacation Fling Fun

Broody hockey player neighbor, check. A trip to Italy, check. All my favorite couples from previous books making an appearance? Triple check. Vera is a fashion stylist trying to make a name for herself. Ian is her grumpy neighbor that makes too much noise but she also can't stop staring at. When her bestie's husband, who is also a hockey player and friends with Ian, takes them both on a trip to Italy with the group, sparks fly.
Vera needs help in the love department and Ian needs his image sharpened up. They can work together for a common goal and have a vacation fling at the same time. We all know what that means though, what happens in Italy wasn't really going to stay in Italy.
I loved these two and their banter. My favorite parts of the book was them fighting, I am not sure what that says about me but oh well. I really wish we would have seen more of both of their back stories and had them share my intimate details of their past before the ending though. It felt a bit rushed for their HEA. The narration was amazing!

Really lovely

I love Sarina’s books. This was so lovely and made my heart warm. I highly recommend it.
Not my favourite narrators (I’m a hard core Zachary Webber fan) but they were awesome ❤️❤️. Grab it, you’ll love it.

Another winner!

4.5 Stars ⭐️

What can I say? I really, really like this series. I'm not sure what it is about the Brooklyn Bruisers and the hockey world that Sarina Bowen has created, but I absolutely LOVE it. II particularly love the opportunity to step back into the world and take a peek at the characters that we have come to know and love - in addition to meeting a new female character while also getting to know a certain male character even better.

This book has us meeting Vera - a friend of Charlie's who also happens to live next door to Ian Crikey. This is a case of opposites attracting but the pace takes just the right pace to make everything realistic. Throw in several of the team guys (and their wives) spending a few weeks in Italy and you have the makings of a fun, easy paced story.

I liked Vera and I liked Ian. Vera did move a little slower than I would have liked in her thought process, but it was believable and served its purpose. Ian came across a bit arrogant at the beginning, but it was easy to see that his heart was enormous and that his motives genuine.

All in all another winner in this wonderful Brooklyn Bruisers Series. I can't wait to see who is up next in the que.

Fun book

This was a fun read. I normally don't like hate to love books because I find them caustic and unhealthy. This was not that, not even close. It was more two people stuck in their heads unable to consider the others perspective. That is until their forced to get to know each other and realize their pre-conceived notions were untrue. Both are quick to realize their wrong and own up to it.
This was a fun book! I loved the message of not listening to your inner "b**ch. I also love how she uses her knowledge of clothes to help him through his problem.
