Summary
Odisseo, noto anche come Ulisse, quando giunse alla corte dei Feaci, raccontò tra le altre vicende che gli erano accadute, del suo incontro con la Maga Circe. Con l’aiuto del dio Ermes, Ulisse convinse Circe a liberare i compagni trasformati da lei in maiali, e ridare loro sembianze umane. Fu proprio da questo famosissimo episodio dell’Odissea, che Plutarco prese l’ispirazione per scrivere quest’opera, sicuramente tra le più originali della sua produzione. Plutarco fa iniziare la vicenda con un dialogo tra Ulisse e la maga. Lui le chiede di liberare dall’incantesimo anche tutti gli altri prigionieri Greci che lei ha tramutato in animali, e che, come tali, vivono nell’isola. Circe allora gli concede un colloquio con Grillo, un maiale che un tempo era un uomo, ma le risposte che costui darà a Ulisse, non sono certo quelle che il navigatore Greco si sarebbe aspettato…
