About this listen
The conclusion to the In the End duology.
Welcome to the new world.
We thought we were the last and all we had to do was survive the initial outbreak. Turns out the hard part is surviving each other.
Man, the post-apocalypse is brutal.
Most of the runners have phased out, but a fraction have survived. They are smarter, faster, and way more deadly.
When Jace'el and I are stranded in the middle of nowhere and all our supplies are stolen, we have no choice but to join another group of survivors. But they're leading us into an underground bunker, which severely limits our escape routes.
We were supposed to be safe, but the virus has mutated, making the infected smarter than anyone ever thought possible.
Our only hope for survival is to make it to the Tower, where we'll be safe behind walls with a group of survivors just like us.
That is, if we can outrun the creatures hunting us because safety is really only an illusion.
I am Raylinn Marrow, and this is the end of the beginning.
Note: post-apocalyptic conclusion with mild swearing.

perfect wrap up
This book shows what happens after the first days of the out break. as the second book in the series it starts fast and keeps the pace. The main character is still a bit cheeky to add breaks of humor and the series end here.

Good listen
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
I have listened to the first book of this series and then this one. I still like the storyline however what spoiled it slightly for me was the narration of the other characters. They all seemed to have the same voice and volume (loud). I think either a little variation or none at all would have been better.

Aliens, zombies and more...
I really enjoyed the first book in this series but this one took a little while to get going. I understand you have to set the scene but it just seemed like not alot was happening to begin with. Raylin and Jace'el are on their own trying to survive. The runners seem to be everywhere. They meet another survivor who tells them about the Tower and they decide to go there but its not going to be easy. The narrator was brilliant at Raylin's voice but I found the men's voices sounded too similar and struggled to understand who was who. But the story was really good especially at the end part of the story. Lots of action. I received an audible copy of this book from the author but the review is entirely my own opinion.

Exciting and emotional
This is the conclusion of the duet and the prior book, Sound of Silence must be read first.
This was an amazing ride. The zombie like creatures, Runners, have taken over the world and 2 years later, Raylinn and Jace are trying to survive. Through their experiences, the reader feels the love, hope, betrayal, and sadness due to loss that these characters experience. Ali Winters did such a great job describing the environment and the feelings. I really went through the range of emotions and I have to say, that those quiet times with Raylinn and Jace, where I felt the loyalty and deep seated love between these two characters, were especially poignant especially since minutes later, they were often fighting for their lives.
I felt like Shaina Summerville did a good job but there were moments when she sounded a little too forced. Her other characters, especially, didn't sound natural. However, I liked her voices for Raylinn and Jace and generally, she did a good job with highlighting the different emotions. I give her a rating of 3.5.
I requested and received this audiobook.
