About this listen

Dear Claire, I had a stressful weekend. It would be nice to come home and not be made to feel guilty. I hope school was interesting. There's some of the chicken (which was very good, by the way) left over. See you for breakfast. I want to talk to you about something. -Mom Beautifully told through notes left on their kitchen fridge, this is an intimate portrait of the relationship between a hard-working mother and her teenage daughter.

Stunningly sad but ultimately uplifting, it is about being a "good mother" or a "good daughter", and is a reminder of how much can be said in so few words, if only we made the time to say them.

my 11 year old step daughter read this book, and said I should too, said I would really love it. she wasn't wrong. this book is amazing. it's so powerfull and honest, I cried my way through the end of the book. it brought back so many memories of my childhood and what happened to my mum over 30 years ago and how I felt, it also brought back so many raw feelings of losing my husband 4.5yrs ago.

I cried as much for memories as for the knowledge that my stepdaughter went through her own personal family trauma and how she has had to deal with it. I truly always want to protect her from ever having to feel anything like this again.

An honest successful fiction book looking at teenage life, and a mum with cancer, and ultimately how it progresses into death.

hard, emotional, true
