About this listen

One boy, one boat, one tiger....

British comedian, actor and broadcaster Sanjeev Bhaskar, OBE performs this brilliant edition of a work of fiction that is loved by fans around the world. After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a 16 year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orangutan - and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. The scene is set for an extraordinary adventure.

Critic reviews

"A unique and original story, brilliantly told." (Guardian)
"Pi is bewitching, the tale both nihilistic and naïve, philosophical and playful, deeply moving while always treading the line clear of schmalz." (Independent)
"Every page offers something of tension, humanity, surprise, or even ecstasy." (The Times)

Sanjeev reads this beautiful book with passion and characterful clarity.
Aside from the book being a masterpiece, listening to the audiobook version was a great pleasure.

Gets a bit dull in the middle i felt, but well worth finishing. Makes an interesting case for religion. (also if that theme interests you, i reccomend "Religion for Atheists")

Darn on it.

Wow, Sanjeev Bhaskar brought to life my all time favourite novel. I love this story on so many levels, and now I couldn’t imagine anyone else’s voice.

You sometimes wonder if you should get the audio version of a book you really like and have read a few times. In this case I'm so happy I did. The wonderful narrator gave it something extra. A beautiful audiobook!

I watched the film years ago and thought it spellbinding and have finally gotten around to the book.. The descriptions of the sea, the sky, the animals, the sea life and of course, Richard Parker are rich & your imagination and emotions are sent on a journey with them.. I cried in parts as it touches the soul. Love love love!

A deeply beautiful story of faith and survival

Bloody hell, what a book.
I thought this book was going to be pants.
Lack of characters, lack of setting etc made me think there wouldn’t be enough substance to make it 11 hours of enjoyable content.

I have never been so glad to be so wrong.

Book is in three parts and each part is a thing of beauty. Character depth makes you, as a listener, share in the tragedies and glories of the main character. At the end, I found myself feeling like I needed a moment just to gather myself.
The narration of the story is amazing. No one could have done a better job. Simply put, it was perfect for the story and bought it to life in a way that fit like a perfect cut jigsaw piece.

This is now one of my favourite audiobooks, up there with The Martian.

Wow!
