About this listen

Ismail Badjie's collection of essays and short stories offers a deeply personal exploration of his life experience as a man straddling two worlds (Africa and the US). Ismail navigates the complexities of his dual identity with wit, candor, and a relentless pursuit of self-discovery. He encourages listeners to step outside their comfort zones, challenge deeply ingrained beliefs, and explore the uncharted territories of their own inner worlds. Drawing on his life experiences, Ismail shares valuable lessons that offer a deep insight into his personal journey into fatherhood, the healing of his inner child, confronting his patriarchal upbringing, and grappling with the complexities of his culture. Ultimately, Ismail's writing celebrates the beauty of true love, perseverance, and devotion, urging us to embrace the power of vulnerability, resilience, and self-discovery. A thought-provoking and inspiring listen, Ismail Badjie's collection of essays and short stories is a testament to the transformative power of storytelling and the enduring human spirit.

This book spoke for me and spoke to me on so many counts. Inspiring and encouraging that after it’s said and done our diversity truly is found in all that we are made of and that has nothing to do with where we are going. Awesome read!

Rich & Profound

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from start to finish. As a Gambian / African, many of the chapters were very relatable.. dual nationalities, entrepreneurship, etc. The topics, as well as Dr. Ismail himself, will serve as an inspiration for many Gambians in the diaspora to consider setting shop back home and help change the status-quo.

Relatable.
