Summary

A classic to the delight of lovers literature

Would you consider the audio edition of Les trois mousquetaires to be better than the print version?

For me, yes, because as someone who is learning the french language, be able to hear a classic of world literature, narrated in its original language is something magnificent. Moreover, the version in audio enabled me to practice a language that I love. Read a book in any language is good, but listening is much better, i think.

What other book might you compare Les trois mousquetaires to and why?

I think is very difficult to compare a book to another, moreover when it comes to a classic. And then, I love the story of the Three Musketeers, so I think it just another book in the series compares to this - The Man in the Iron Mask.

Which scene was your favorite?

For me, the meeting between D'Artagnah and the Three Musketeers is the best part, because is so funny! There are others good moments, but this was cucial. I think is because i could understant easily too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but at the same time I wanted to understand what was ouindo then repeatedly was repentindo the same stretch. It's something conflicting ...

Any additional comments?

I love the classics, then I think is worth knowing them - no matter what language. For me, hear a classic that I love, in the original language it was something wonderful.Hear a good book and have the opportunity to practice another language for me is a privilegie. However, I believe we all know the story of the three Musketeers (there are films and adaptations), but nothing replaces know history through books.

Quite boring

I had listened to "The Count of Monte Cristo" before this and realized that Dumas basically wrote the equivalent of modern-day soap operas. His aim was clearly to entertain his audience for long periods of time. just like soap-operas do today.
That said, "The Count of Monte Cristo" is probably one of the greatest soap-operas ever written, so it gets well above the genre. Plus is a vendetta story, so it keeps you hooked. Even if boring at times.
The three musketeers is on the same line. A lengthy soap-opera but much inferior. So, I found it boring. Entertainment for nineteenth century people. Of course Dumas is a master of entertainment. Nonetheless, time has passed since Dumas, so unless you look for light entertainment this is not for you.

Long Live Dumas!

Aucun autre auteur ne peut susciter l'émotion comme Dumas. Il est le maître conteur et son œuvre est encore aujourd'hui sans rivale.
Vive Dumas le Grand!

Chapter divisions do not correspond to audio

A very engaging performance of a great classic, let down by very poor chapter division of the audio, making it difficult to follow with text.

Track divisions do not reflect chapters!

I am trying to alternate between the English and French audiobooks to study French, and it is very difficult to remember where to restart in the French version since the tracks do not change each chapter (usually my hands are busy while I’m listening, so I can’t always stop and note the change of chapter mid-track). Please fix this issue - the audiobook is wonderful!

okay enough story

I just read the "Comte de Monte Cristo" from the same author, which was an absolute master piece. the three musketeers happened to be less "plotty" and less captivating, but quite okay.

Il était temps!

Il était temps que je lise ce classique! J'ai bien aimé et ce, malgré quelques difficultés avec le "vieux français" et les tournures de phrases. J'aurais aimé que ça se termine mieux pour le personnage principal...
