Summary

Want to expand your Japanese vocabulary with almost no effort? Then keep reading.

Are you planning a trip to Asia? Or sharpening your skills for work? Just press play on this audiobook when you’re sleeping, meditating, or doing chores around the house.

Learn new vocabulary while actively listening or passively while you’re doing other things.

This audiobook contains:

  • More than 1,000 common Japanese words and phrases
  • All original music (composed and performed by South African DJ and producer Spirante Beat), specifically to relax your mind

I'm sure your first question is: Can you actually learn a foreign language while you’re asleep? Well, according to a Swiss research study in 2014, the answer is unassailably yes! In this study, a group of German speakers was given a list of unfamiliar Dutch words to study. Half were instructed to get some sleep while they listened to long lists of Dutch words and translations. The other half was instructed to stay awake. Four hours later, they were tested, and the group that listened while they slept had significantly higher recall. The study concluded that people can indeed absorb new information passively during non-REM sleep—which is the deep sleep we get in the first few hours of the night.

This audiobook is divided into six chapters, each with different kinds of vocabulary, and with different music. Choose a different chapter each night, or loop the audiobook to have a continuous stream. Some listeners—those with more experience with the foreign language—have reported that these recordings allow them to dream in that language!

Sit back, relax, enjoy, and learn!

Another great book in the series

I travel often, and I think it's essential to learn at least the most basic of phrases so I can be more successful at navigating. This is especially true since I often venture outside the traditional tourist areas where I visit. In addition to phrasebooks, language courses, and dictionaries, I wanted something to tune my subconscious, giving me a great excuse to buy a pair of sleep buds. I saw results within a few days of listening. I can see why this book would be great to listen to while meditating because the gentle music and relaxing audio put you into a learning trance. More importantly, it will help you learn while sleeping. Another side effect is that listening helped me with my insomnia. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn the Japanese language or wants a great book to meditate on. It's well worth your audible credit. Well done!

Relaxing voice and very helpful

Loved this audiobook to support my learning Japanese. I definitely think it helped me learn how to pronounce things better than if I had just started reading a book about this. The words and phrases you learn are actually things you can use in daily life which was impressive. I'm glad I got it. Also, the ambient music behind the reading is so relaxing. You'll definitely want this if you're trying to learn Japanese!

Worth a listen.

Not a fan of the music in the background but the spoken words were good, good voice. I like it. might even listen to it in another language too.
