Insightful
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
To be a leader, its more of what you do and less of who you are
Any additional comments?
Written by Bodo Schäfer and narrated by Troy W. Hudson. In this audiobook the writer, Bodo Schäfer tries to explain the leadership role, he makes use of a fictional company and its managers to do so.
The book follows the managers’ encounter with Louis Berg, who was a high-performance sportsman in tennis. Louis’ approach to life was ‘eat or be eaten’ until he was involved in an accident that put him in a wheelchair. He overcame the challenge and went on to become a successful sales manager and then a management consultant.
One of Louis Berg’s first quotes was “The ability to lead is the difference between success and failure and thus between a fulfilling life and frustrated mediocrity.” He pointed out to the managers that leadership was about what a leader should do and not who a leader should be. This solves the problem of trying to be someone else, which is near impossible, instead of doing certain things the person did.
To do what a leader would, “there are five tasks which must be fulfilled, five tools to carry out the tasks and five principles which are the foundation of long lasting success.”
Louis describes the role of a leader as:
The what; five tasks
The with; five tools
The how and why; five principles
The tasks make work measurable, enable control, give security and orientation and are the basis for effective communication.
The tools help to accomplish the tasks, enable efficient work, offer leverage: economical and time-saving; Lead to effective leadership through exercise.
The principles show how to perform tasks, regulate the direction of the company, give focus and form the heart of the company, their conscience; they enable an independent company culture. They give the sense of work, build pride in the company and create an identity.
Leading simple is a system for the whole company and not just for the "executives". I like the simplicity and clarity with which it gives insight into the role of a leader. Even though the author is German, the book as a different style to it, and I definitely recommend it.

Best Leadership Book I've Had So Far
Would you consider the audio edition of Leading Simple to be better than the print version?
Yes, I do. The narration by Troy W. Hudson makes it better to listen than to read the print version. It is exceptionally well narrated.
What does Troy W. Hudson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The beautiful style of expression by the narrator makes it an awesome story to experience. It feels that the writer is directly talking to me and I am in the story experiencing everything around me.
Any additional comments?
I think it is a wonderfully compiled book that has all the necessary ingredients to be deemed as a classic. The plot, the characters and all the melodrama copes well with the thrilling affair. The audiobook offers a lot of insight to the characters and gives a very positive highlight about the mind of the writer

Any additional comments?
Leadership is an important quality in making one’s life successful. This book is all about leadership and its attributes and how effectively we can groom this important domain in our life. This book surely impressive me and change my point of view towards leaders and leadership. Written by Bodo Schäfer and narrated by Troy W. Hudson. Both the person did their best to make this book a master piece.
It start with a fictitious company and group of managers facing issues and hardships due to lack of leadership. Then entry of Louis Berg and his journey from being top tennis player to a retarded person to a leader. How these drastic events change his life and how his leadership skills keep him intact and play vital role in his success . According to him Leadership makes a difference in success or failure of life.
In his address to the managers he said that people have so much energy or you can say opportunity and majority of this energy got wasted. Because it’s not channelize properly. Most of them do not have a clue that what they can achieve if they can channelize this energy properly. This is a leader task to channelize this energy or opportunities for people. He further elaborated, to do what a leader would, “there are five tasks which must be fulfilled, five tools to carry out the tasks and five principles which are the foundation of being successful.
The simple knowledge give everyone a chance to become a leader, to explore themselves. This Book give opportunity to people to find their leadership qualities, and to leader to find what people expect from them. Anyone who wants a competitive carrier, who wants to overcome his hurdles, who want make to make a change, then this book is the one stop platform for them. I highly recommend it.
In the end I want to quote Louis Berg:
“The Grade of your effectiveness is proportional to grade of your leadership”

The best book I've read!
Any additional comments?
“The Laws of Successful Leadership” by Bodo Schafer is subtitled “effective rules of success which change your life!” And it talks about three (3) central themes divided into several laws, namely:
• Discipline
• Character
• Principle
Discipline:
Bodo Schafer uses his book to focus on discipline and leadership. He believes that self-leadership is first, before one could think of leading others, he or she must first lead himself/herself; that leaders are those who have consciously disciplined themselves so that they are relevant to their generation and followers.
Bodo Schafer stated in his book that discipline is key to effective leadership because it ensure that a leader is prepared and worth leading others to follow. And since leadership is influence, followers tend to naturally follow a leader that is self-discipline and discipline conscious.
Character:
As Bodo Schafer believes that character is everything, and a great leader is supposed to have one. He went ahead to say that not only should a leader just have character but a great inspiring lifestyle.
Principle:
Life as believed are built on principles, and great leaders are men of principles, who have consciously set rules to guide their actions. Bodo Schafer wrote in his book that a principled leader is certainly a great leader love by all.
‘The Laws of Successful Leadership’ has helped several leaders to realize and develop certain rules and principles that have guided them in their daily lifestyle thereby helping them to become effective leaders.
This book generally helped to shift the mentality of people especially potential leaders. This book helps to eject self-discipline into the lives of its leaders.
Indeed, The Laws of Successful Leadership’ has helped contributed to knowledge through mental shift for its readers.
What Makes The Book Unique?
This book is unique because it helps give foundational laws that deal with core aspect of effective leadership.
Apart from the central theme of leadership Discipline, Character, and Principle, the book also touched some areas of Inter-personal relationship, Mannerism and Diplomacy.
“The Laws of Successful Leadership” by Bodo Schafer is an exceptional work that is needed by every leader who desires to be great because the book dealt with almost all aspect of a leader’s lifestyle for effectiveness.
Hence, it is a great work.
