Summary
What does it take to lead a team to world-class success over a sustained period of time?Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the few leaders who truly knows. In his 38 years in management, Sir Alex won an astonishing 49 trophies and helped grow Manchester United into one of the biggest commercial brands in the world.
In this inspirational and straight-talking new book, Sir Alex reveals the secrets behind his record-breaking career.
Leading is structured around the key skills that Sir Alex values most highly. It includes subjects we immediately associate with his managerial style: Discipline, Control, Teamwork and Motivation. But it also addresses subjects that are less obvious but no less important when seeking success: Delegation, Data Analysis and Dealing with Failure.
Written with the investor Sir Michael Moritz, a longstanding friend of Sir Alex, Leading is packed with insight, wisdom, humour and honesty. The individual stories inevitably concern themselves with football, and the phenomenal success that came along the way, but the lessons can be applied by anyone. Whether you run a business, teach in a classroom, or work in a small team, Leading will help you become a better leader.

Excellent and inspiring
Great narration and story, I'm not a United fan but while the book is mainly centred around United it is the ethos, actions and learning curve that got my attention. Seeing the bigger picture and getting the best out people worth investing in.

Typical Ferguson Arrogance
This is nothing we haven't heard before from ferguson if I'm being honest. It's a story of how he managed United no more.
Interesting as it may be if you've never read one of his before this book will not serve to educate anyone other than the aspiring football team manager. rarely does he talk about a combined effort or give credit to players and staff that got him were he is.
It's all about him.
The last chapter is a mystery also.

Interesting book if you like football, not particularly useful as a management book
Gives a great account of how Alex Ferguson forged his remarkable career and built the excellent Man Utd teams of the 1990s and 2000s. If you’re interested in football in that era, you’ll enjoy this book. It gives some great insights into how he achieved excellence within his teams.
However, as a management book (which the title suggests) there are not many useful takeaways for the reader. Not much attempt is made to package up context specific stories into messages other aspiring leaders could apply in how they lead their teams, deal with crisis, etc.
In addition, the epilogue is quite strange as it attempts to link the management and evolution of Man Utd to start ups in Silicon Valley. I felt that this was a bit far reached and not very convincing. There’s also a bit too much unrestrained hero worship in the epilogue for my liking. Still, as a book about English football over the past 30 years, it’s great. If your interested in learning more about that subject and then I recommend it to you.

Poor
Repeats the same uninsightful comments. Disjointed chapters, with a lack of flow. Very limited business relevance or use.

Self Indulgent Rubbish
Did I enjoy this book?? Not one bit. As a United fan, I thought it would be interesting to get a glimpse of the club through Sir Alex's eyes but my good god this is insanely dull. He tells us that he supposedly only ever had four world class players at United. Really?? Rooney, Keane, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Schmeichel, Stam, Ince, De Gea, none of those were world class?? Turn it in.

Well worth a listen
As someone who followed Alex Fergusons career I found this very interesting.
Ferguson gives details of dealing with players and advice on how he progressed in his field.
I would say if your weren't a football fan and wanted a leadership book there are better options available. But for anyone who would like a crossover between sport and work/business this would be worth a listen.
The narration is good, its not by Ferguson but the Scottish narrator gives it an authentic feel.

A must for those fascinated with leadership
I liked that the narrator was Scottish, gave the book an authentic appeal like Sir Alex was reading the chapters. Nice insight into why Man Utd were so successful under AF leadership.
