Story
Award-winning narrator and internationally acclaimed writer/comedienne Alison Larkin brings depth and wit to this rich, hugely entertaining audio production of Jane Austen's last two great novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. The novels are followed by The History of England, a short satirical piece in which the teenage Austen writes about the kings and queens of England with less respect (and more wit) than any British newspaper, and Poems, a selection of lesser known, mostly comic verses that Austen wrote to entertain family and friends.

This famous novel by Jane Austen is full of wise and humorous observation of the people and manners of her times.

Story
At 27, Anne Elliot is no longer considered young enough for worthy romantic prospects. Eight years earlier, she had been persuaded by her friend Lady Russell to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a handsome naval captain with neither fortune nor rank. What transpires when they encounter each other again is movingly told in Jane Austen's last completed novel. A brilliant satire of vanity and pretension, Persuasion is, above all, a love story tinged with the heartache of missed opportunities.

Story
This is Jane Austen's lighthearted lesson in what you get for reading too many gothic novels. It is a mark of the astonishing talent of the woman, however, that even a flippant swipe at the trashy reading of the day turned out to be an elegant if extremely funny classic. Catherine Morland is another one of those Austen girls who, in spite of her gloriously ironic portrait as a romantic heroine in training, ends up being someone whose story you'd follow to the end of the world, or at least until the end of the book.

Story
Read by Juliet Stevenson and Simon Callow, A Literary Christmas is a seasonal anthology that collects together poems, short stories, and prose extracts by some of the greatest poets and writers in the English language. Like Charles Dickens’ ghosts of Christmas Past and Present, they are representative of times old and new - from John Donne’s Elizabethan hymn over the baby Jesus to Rudyard Kipling’s "Christmas in India", from Thomas Tusser counting the cost of a Tudor feast to Laurie Lee’s "Cider with Rosie".

These three short works show Austen experimenting with a variety of different literary styles, from melodrama to satire, and exploring a range of social classes and settings. The early epistolary novel Lady Susan depicts an unscrupulous coquette toying with the affections of several men. In contrast, The Watsons is a delightful fragment whose spirited heroine, Emma Watson, finds her marriage opportunities limited by poverty and pride....

Story
Memoir of Jane Austen is the Austen family's memoir of the beloved 19th-century English novelist. Written and compiled by Austen's nephew, James Edward Austen-Leigh, Memoir of Jane Austen reveals the author as her family knew her while at the same time protecting the author's privacy in keeping with the Victorian conventions of the time.
Summary
Lady Susan has just arrived uninvited at the country home of her brother-in-law, Charles, and his unwelcoming wife, Catherine. Susan’s reputation as an accomplished coquette precedes her, and Catherine will not allow her own brother, Reginald, to fall prey to Susan’s amorous games.
Despite warnings, the besotted young man finds himself falling - all to the conniving lady’s delight. But it’s the arrival of Susan’s rebellious sixteen-year-old daughter that sets this romantic roundelay spinning. Told through an exchange of letters, Jane Austen’s Lady Susan is a delicious epistolary novel of love lost and of love found. It shamelessly subverts all expectations of polite romance.
And in Austen’s unfinished work, The Watsons, a family reunion sparks the passionate pursuits of four sisters. Where it all leads is a literary guessing game.

Always delightful!
Jane Austen is now forever etched as a favorite author of mine. Even in short works, her intelligent wit and wonderful gift with words is apparent. The Watsons would have been a great story if it were fully developed I believe, and the direction it was going in is so well displayed that the reader can satisfactorily finish it for themselves.
