Hilarious and Fantastic
This was one of the best books I’ve listened to in a while. If you find The Edible Woman hilarious like I do then give this a go. The story has that great combination of seriousness and hilarity. The main character is excellent and I thought the ending just suited her entirely.

Clever and well written, but felt a bit clinical
This is definitely a well written book and good example of the writer's craft. There are stories within stories, clever metaphors, etc. And the characters are quite well done as well - they definitely feel like real people. I just found myself not really getting drawn in. I think this was maybe because it felt too much like an exercise for a creative writing course - sometimes the writer seemed to prioritise the use of interesting literary techniques over basic storytelling. Not to say the story was a dud, but I never really found myself wondering what would happen next

Hooked
It took me a while to get into this book - until about half of it, I wasn't sure, but I couldn't stop listening either. From its half to the end, I was hooked. It coincided with a change in the main character's life... so the reason why I didn't get hooked earlier might just have been the fact that I was suffering with her.
Also took a while to get used to the voice and accent - aspects I'm very receptive and sensitive to - but I found in the end that all fitted well together.

What did you just say?
I was enjoying this until Atwood used the phrase 'like a mongoloid idiot'. What?! Totally unacceptable and I am not listening to more. Very disappointing for such a stellar author to stoop so low.

Odd storyline
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was captivated by the character to start with but as the book progressed I found her more and more improbable
Any additional comments?
Disappointing as I loved The Handmaidens Tale.
