Summary

À quatorze ans, Dita est une des nombreuses victimes du régime nazi. Avec ses parents, elle est arrachée au ghetto de Terezín, à Prague, pour être enfermée dans le camp d'Auschwitz. Là, elle tente malgré l'horreur de trouver un semblant de normalité.

Quand Fredy Hirsch, un éducateur juif, lui propose de conserver les huit précieux volumes que les prisonniers ont réussi à dissimuler aux gardiens du camp, elle accepte. Au péril de sa vie, Dita cache et protège un trésor. Elle devient la bibliothécaire d'Auschwitz.
