About this listen

Sit back and join the ride with this collection of edge-of-your-seat climbing stories by Mark Twight, aka Dr. Doom. "Somewhere out there somebody understands these words and knows they matter. They were written in blood, learned by heart." (Mark Twight)

Mark Twight is a BANFF award-winner, an extreme climber, an extreme writer, and an extreme personality. No matter what he's doing, Mark Twight takes a definite, and often controversial , stand. Anyone who knows climbing knows Twight's name, and anyone who knows Twight's name will want to listen to this audiobook. Each story is told in Twight's taut, in-your-face style. Brand-new epilogues bring each piece full circle, providing updated information and fresh, hindsight perspectives.

The story is punk and raw and reflects a specific time in climbing, music and people. The climbs are hard, conditions sometimes ideal, often not. Survival was a good decision and a roll of a dice away.
Nihilistic and self obsessed, slightly elitist in parts. All for a good reason.

I find the (mis-)pronunciation of French routes and cities and names by the narrator a bit irritating

Iconic climbs and iconic climber

There are so many good climbing books out there. Don't waste time on this one. The narrative is aggressive, self obsessed, thick with arrogant truisms, often low level offensive to other cultures, and lacking in insight. The writing is bad. Also, the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce "alpinism".

Pretty execrable

the narrator is monotone and i dont think the story helps as it seems a little dull
