About this listen
In the second book of The Watcher Chronicles series, Jess finally learns where her father has been since the Tear first opened. While Mason tries to keep his distance from her, Jess continues to search for the other vessels with Chandler by her side.
This series is intended for a mature audience. Recommended for ages 17 and older due to sexual situations and adult themes.
If I were to use the movie rating system, I would rate this series an R.

Fantastic
The story is gripping, the writing is evocative, and the narrator is clear.
I've listened to the series back to back. I can't say better than that.

Couldn’t get beyond annoying performance
I didn’t get to hear most of the story because the narration was grating. Particularly when the female performed a nasal and croaky man’s voice. No thanks.

Too Much Love
A promising storyline overridden by a love story so uncomfortable and OTT it could be on Wattpad. A shame as the premise was good, hoping the next book gets back on track but won't be finishing it if it doesn't.

Very disappointing
In only at chapter 14 so far but I'm irritated enough to leave my review early. The promising story laid out in book 1 has disintegrated into characters that are no longer believable. Mason acts like a spoiled child with no thought for the hurt he's causing and his friends seem to think it's Jesse's responsibility to be the adult of the relationship. When that is sorted out, Jess becomes the most sexually teasing terrified virgin ever. I get that the character is dealing with the aftermath of sexual abuse but the come on's and suggestiveness from her is totally at odds with that.
Also, I'm sick of hearing about kissing and how amazing it is. Do adult stories really need this? I thought that was just for mid-teen's stories?
The other characters seem to think being pushy about marriage is perfectly acceptable even before the couple have even kissed. It's so far from genuine behaviour.
The 'everyone is totally gorgeous' theme from book 1 is still there - except for one solitary character, which is annoying but expected.
I hope the author gets back into the promised story soon, or I won't be bothering with book 3.
This series started out with real promise. The story might still be there, hidden under the poor characters and their off putting behaviours but it needs to start shining soon or I might be regretting giving it three stars.

Deflation
After getting captivated by the story in the first book this has left me deflated.
story is very interesting however the constant repetitive nature it's a little frustrating.
Going to try the third but have little hope I'm going to get through it.
maybe worth noting I'm not the target audience.
so maybe thats the issue

A pajama party of lovey dovey chit chat
This book is like attending a pajama party for a 13-year old girl. I found myself rolling my eyes at the amount of love struck chit chat, naivety and all round goodness of the female lead. She is innocence itself. She is also the girl that is so wholesome and good that it feels like I have to swallow whole bran flakes when she thinks or speaks. She even sees the “goodness” in Lucifer. Smh.
I could get onboard with it in the first book as it wasn’t so overwhelming but in the second book, it dominates and the love chitty chitty bang bang is almost the only narrative that happens.
The premise of the story is entertaining though, but it was hard to continue listening when the story took a far far back seat to the lovey dovey oily goo.
I cannot even imagine listening to the next instalment, even if it is in the Plus catalogue.

It was a real struggle to get through it
2,5 ⭐ Gosh this was a difficult novel to get through. I got his on ku with free audio, and I don't know if her voice was as melancholy in the first book as it was in this one, but I had to speed up the narration in order to finish it.
Jessica is frustrating and her relationship is beyond Slow burn as she tried to deal with sa she suffered as a child before she can open up to Mason and finally do it. The rest of the story, as they follow their mission to find the other vessels, etc is good, but we only get tiny bits of it here and there in between the frustration of the main characters relationship.
It also ends on a cliffhanger. Now I have to decide if I can be bothered to go for book 3 or not.
