Ein Berliner Ehepaar wagte einen aussichtslosen Widerstand gegen die Nazis und wurde 1943 hingerichtet. Von ihrem Schicksal erfuhr Hans Fallada aus einer Gestapo-Akte, die ihm durch Johannes R. Becher in die Hände kam. It grips you and takes you with it.

The story and the narrator are perfectly matched. A gripping and thought provoking story, especially in light of present times, but also in light of the life of the author himself. I can only recommend it.
