Compelling Narrative of Ancient Japan!
I truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Despite working in Japan for two years, I never really looked into Japanese mythology. This audiobook gave me a deeper understanding and respect for Japanese culture. And Yes - it will have a more profound meaning when I visit a Shinto temple in the future. I especially enjoyed the legend of the Islands of Japan and the story of the Shinto deities. These stories, like Suzuno’s slaying of an 8-headed dragon and the discovery of a grass-cutting sword, add colour to the Japanese culture. The author also parallels Japanese culture with Indian and Celtic culture, which I had never imagined. This is entertaining, and I would love to listen to it again and again. Highly recommended!

So interesting!
Japanese history, culture, and mythology is not something I have learned about before too much. I am intrigued buy the Japanese culture and this was so interesting to listen to! Great Listen!

Great book
This audiobook is like a time machine that whisks you away to ancient Japan! I was totally hooked from the start. What really blew my mind was how these old stories still pop up in modern Japan - it's like connecting the dots between the past and present. I'm not usually big on history stuff, but this had me glued to my headphones. It's perfect whether you're a Japan newbie or someone who's been into anime for years. The narrator's voice is super engaging too, making even the weirder parts easy to follow. By the end, I felt like I understood so much more about Japanese culture. If you're looking for something different that'll spark your imagination, give this a listen. It's like the coolest bedtime stories you've never heard!

Comprehensive, gruesome and fascinating
This is really comprehensive and shows how Japanese mythology still informs international culture today. It also covers information about temples and festivals, and the difference between China and Japan mythology. You will definitely learn a lot about Japanese mythology, including some gruesome stories! I really liked the narrator, who had no trouble at all with the Japanese names and generally spoke clearly and smoothly.

Excellent
My first impressions about this book were 1) the narrator's voice is AWESOME 2) unfortunately, I was initially confused by the misleading chapter layout e.g. the first four chapters are the book title, copyright, table of contents, etc. But, really, apart from not having labels to guide us through the chapters, the informative content itself was well-presented and very interesting. I certainly think this book is worth a listen and am glad I added to my library!

I love it !
Thisis like taking a magical trip back in time to old Japan. The book tells cool stories about gods, spirits, and real-life heroes. It's like listening to exciting bedtime tales, but with a touch of history. If you love myths and legends, or want to learn about Japanese culture, this book is a fun adventure! I would recommend giving it a listen !
