About this listen

The first novella in the gripping Invader series, set in Roman Britain, AD 44, from Sunday Times best-selling authors Simon Scarrow and T. J. Andrews.

The invasion of Britannia has been bloody and relentless, and still the barbaric islanders have not been fully conquered. The men of the Second Legion have suffered grievous losses in driving back their bitterest enemy, but worse is yet to come for the beleaguered soldiers. With winter fast approaching, they face a new threat: ferocious native warriors launching coordinated attacks from their secret base on the Isle of Vectis.

In response, the new legate announces a plan to invade Vectis and rout the enemy in what he expects to be a speedy and successful mission. But Horatius Figulus, a junior officer with local knowledge of the enemy, doubts the invasion will be so straightforward. And when the Second Legion encounters fierce resistance on the beach, Figulus and his fellow soldiers suddenly find themselves fighting a desperate battle for their lives....

Little Nuggets of Scarrow's Roman Goodness!

So what does happen after Macro, Cato and co leave Britannia? Who fixes the rather difficult scenario they left behind them? Well, this little chunk of Scarrow goodness sees a couple of familiar faces trying to do just that. It's intriguing to see them develop in their own right. It also includes some typically bloodthirsty action as the Roman legions invade the Isle of Wight of all places including a tough fight on a beach below those famous cliffs. The novella is performed by Jonathan Keeble with all of his usual aplomb.

So, if you need an extra helping of Scarrow's Roman goodness while we look at the horizon for more Macro and Cato it's not at all bad. It is though but a brief episode of this story of Figulus though so I'd say if you haven't already read the Macro and Cato series yet then you would probably be better starting there - and that it a fictional journey I envy you because it really is excellent. Otherwise there are already five of these little nuggets available if you decide they offer sufficient value. If you pay by credits they may well not do but the cash price is reasonably proportionate at the time of writing this review.

Great story, well read but super short.

really interesting story beautiful narrated but I didn't check the length of the audio book. feel a bit robbed it cost 1 credit for what is in essence a quarter of a book.

Don’t buy!

Despite the title being Invader: Death Beach , and the picture on the front being different, this is exactly the same as Invader by the same authors! I’m assuming, since it only runs for 2hrs 15mins, it is only the start of the story.
I’m quite annoyed that it wasn’t flagged up that I already had the full audio book. Yes, I should have been more diligent but when the titles and pictures are different....
Anyway, if you have “Invader”, don’t buy this one.

Look at length prior to buying

Feels like a cheap scam to buy. Should have noticed it is only a couple of hours long, so my own fault.
