About this listen

"Indistractable provides a framework that will deliver the focus you need to get results." (James Clear, author of Atomic Habits)

You sit down at your desk to work on an important project, but a notification on your phone interrupts your morning. Later, as you're about to get back to work, a colleague taps you on the shoulder to chat. At home, screens get in the way of quality time with your family. Another day goes by, and once again, your most important personal and professional goals are put on hold.

What would be possible if you followed through on your best intentions? What could you accomplish if you could stay focused and overcome distractions? What if you had the power to become "indistractable"?

International best-selling author, former Stanford lecturer, and behavioral design expert, Nir Eyal, wrote Silicon Valley's handbook for making technology habit-forming. Five years after publishing Hooked, Eyal reveals distraction's Achilles' heel in his groundbreaking new book.

In Indistractable, Eyal reveals the hidden psychology driving us to distraction. He describes why solving the problem is not as simple as swearing off our devices: Abstinence is impractical and often makes us want more.

Eyal lays bare the secret of finally doing what you say you will do with a four-step, research-backed model. Indistractable reveals the key to getting the best out of technology, without letting it get the best of us.

Inside, Eyal overturns conventional wisdom and reveals:

  • Why distraction at work is a symptom of a dysfunctional company culture - and how to fix it
  • What really drives human behavior and why "time management is pain management"
  • Why your relationships (and your sex life) depend on you becoming indistractable
  • How to raise indistractable children in an increasingly distracting world

Empowering and optimistic, Indistractable provides practical, novel techniques to control your time and attention - helping you live the life you really want.

Nothing new here.

Very repetitive with nothing really new to say. In parts I felt like I was listening to adverts for Apps the author had invested in.

Some improvements to be made

Please don't start off an audiobook by telling us to download your 60 page written work book. I listen to audio books because I don't have time to read.

The tone of voice shifts up and down between different sections of the same paragraph which can be off-putting.

Its an alright book, but the majority of it is about turning off notifications in different situations, we get it. Notifications are bad.

Very interesting and will hook you easily!

I found out very interesting, easy to understand and made sense to me. So many things are overlooked or simplistically explained, only for later to be debunked! And this audiobook did help me to look again and reassess my own opinions or thoughts on a good few points ;-)

Loved it!

Not all relevant to me at the moment, as I have no kids, yet so many great points and aha moments!

Insightful, structured, and highly valuble

Like many others, I picked up this book hoping to learn some life-hacks. As a person who is relatively focused and disciplined, I did not expect to learn as much as I did over the 5hrs of its content.

Educational with many useful tips, this book doesn't only help provide tips on how to procrastinate less but contains important life lessons on how to achieve big goals and to identify and address problems one may not realize we're caused by distractions. Highly recommended!

Interesting and usefull, but not groundbreaking

Many of the tricks and thoughts are very interesting but rather repetitive in relation to other books and lectures. Personally, I like when theses are supported by research, which happens rarely or superficially here. Solving the problem of addiction to applications as downloading dozens of other applications does not seem to be the best solution.

Some really good nuggets in here

Parts of the book are a repetition of existing information out there. However, there are lots of nuggets of information and practical tips that make this book worth a listed. Well narrated and not too long.

Slightly too technical

After struggling with distractions, I thought I'd pick this up as a cure. Although it has some great insights and tools, there's just too much to practically execute on...

For example; when finding myself distracted on the go in the real world, I'm not going have time to dig deep into these tool - figure out triggers, what's internal, external and execute on all this stuff...

The idea of being "indestractible" sounds great in an ideal world, but realistically there's not enough time in the moment to rely on these tools!

The book goes through alot of scientific and psychological layers, explaining the technical side of distractions - however, there's a lot of information...

It's so overwhelming trying to price everything together, use the workbook, the tools etc. that it makes me want to be distracted just to reset my head around this stuff!

Also be prepared to look up the definitions of words... I found myself having to pause and look up the definition words of all the technical jargon.

Overall 3-stars. Would defo deserve 5-stars if simplified and had realistic tools that could immediately be executed in real time of a distraction occuring.
