About this listen

You aren't stupid. You know there's no such thing as a perfect mother. Plenty of other books will tell you there is, but this one won't lie to you. I was weak and I cheated and I was punished, but, my god, I loved my child through all of it.

Love means you never break, and it means you're stronger than the things they do to you. I know this is true because I have been through fire, and I am the proof that love survives.

I am not a perfect mother but I will tell you the perfect truth, because this is you and me talking. This is my story.

I became a fan of Chris Cleave when I read GOLD which was as touching as it was inspiring and recommended it to many. I therefore thought incendiary would be similarly uplifting and brilliant. I could not have been more wrong! Cleave seems to derive pleasure in depicting senseless, harrowing pain - the worst of its kind! His depiction of a terror stricken London is cheap, insulting and entirely tasteless. I will never pick up another book by Cleave and really wonder what he was thinking (or possibly was not!) when he wrote this really awful, pain for the sake of pain book. This book deals with a very sensitive subject matter and yet there isn't an ounce of sensitivity in the story. Don't waste your money and most importantly dont let the author play with your emotions!

the worst book I have ever read/listened to
