About this listen

Mella finds herself in a whole new world, surrounded by all new things and people. Life was often scary back in the tall trees in that tiny little house, but it was all she knew, and that brought her comfort. Now, separated from her Momma, and her baby brother Pete, Mella has to find out how to make her way in this strange new home with all new rules and people. The cruelty she finds here makes her wonder if there are more than just Bad Men to be afraid of, but Bad Women, too.

When I thought Mella was finally safe, that's when the author hits you in the face once again!

This time not only does she need to learn how to live in the world again with new sounds, routines, etc. She also quickly learns that not only men can be bad, but women too!

I think I hated Lana more than the evil character in the first book and both the author and the narrator of the audiobook, Laura Greaves, made her so insufferable and irritating that I had to punch something to just let my rage dissipate.

This time, although Mella is barred from seeing her mum and her baby brother, she has time to rediscover her bond with her twin sister. Those moments were truly heartwarming and emotional (having a sister myself whom I love deeply).

How Mella once again shows her strength and willpower is amazing and my thoughts go to all the Mellas out there, having grown up too soon, forced by horrific circumstances.

Even if this was another tour de force for my emotional wellbeing (joking not joking), I loved this sequel, even more so because of a yet again very satisfying ending!

Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

Mella is in danger again!
