About this listen
When the world's survival depends on the struggle between good and evil, only one can triumph. The victor will preserve for humankind what makes life worth living, or he will rule atop a mound of skulls, served by the souls he defeated. I, Warlock tells the story of Julius Tide, born part-vampire, destined to be all warlock.
Julius is an almost accidental warlock, born into a family of witches. He meets the beautiful Charlotte one day at a country fair, and proceeds to dedicate his life to marrying her. Keeping his witching ways a secret, he becomes the night to her day, the guilt to her innocence, as he rushes to solve a mystery that has her family in danger and their futures in doubt. Good confronts evil several times over in this epic battle to save or sacrifice the world, set to the backdrop of a love story for the ages.
I, Warlock is the first of three books in the Warlock Wars series, and a spectacular introduction to a cast of characters the listener will come to know, love, and in some cases loathe. It’s a pause resister guaranteed to keep listeners up well past the witching hour.

"I'd wanted to start a new life."
I, Watlock, the first in a new series, surprised me by not being the usual tale of spells and magic but about a young man living with his mother and sister on a farm in Vermont who meets and falls I love with the beautiful Charlotte, later moving with her to New York. But he has a secret: he is a Warlock and destined to take a lead against approaching evil. Written in the first person in a direct and simple style with a delicious trace of the old fashioned as befits the setting, the story is immediately engaging, delivering to the reader a feeling of inclusiveness without apparent effort. Although primarily about the central character, the other players emerge, slowly coming to life, also.
Narration by Sean Rhead further adds to the enjoyment of I Warlock, his voice well modulated and fitting perfectly with the image of the narrator in the story. His is a fine performance although just a tad too slow in delivery for my personal taste but easily remedied by increasing playback speed to 1.2.
A complimentary copy of this book was freely gifted to me by the author. Thank you, it was most enjoyable and I look forward to the next in series. Recommended as the prelude to what promises to be.an intriguing seroes
