About this listen
Far from being a conventional 'how to' guide, this book is about the simple fundamental principles of fishing - a mind-set for success. In other words, how to think like a fish.
After starting to fish in rural England more than 50 years ago and going on to become a captor of large, wily carp in his teens, Jeremy Wade started combining angling with far-flung exploration in 1982 - a trip to northern India via Afghanistan in a plane that just weeks later was hit by a ground-to-air missile.
Since then Jeremy has caught an unparalleled array of large and outlandish fish from challenging locations all over the world, originally in seat-of-the-pants solo travels and more recently in the company of a TV crew.
Among the fish caught are a dozen freshwater species over the weight of 100 pounds, some of which were unknown even to anglers until recently. As these catches have come more to the public attention, many people have approached Jeremy about how they can improve their fishing results.
Fishing is about deception, so it has to engage the brain. It is an exercise in problem solving, where no two sets of circumstances are exactly the same, where success is an artful blend of drawing on experience and keeping an open mind.

An excellent listen from an experienced monster hunter.
If you enjoyed River Monsters and want to learn a thing or two this is the book for you. He gives an insight into the way he fishes and there are plenty of stories coming from the River Monster series. Thoroughly enjoyed and have read twice already!

Not what I was expecting!
If you're reading this you'll be familiar with the man and his work, great in measured doses but gets too much in large volumes. Lifelong angler and have had this in the audible library for a while, have just finished listening to it and really wished I had done so sooner! Part biographical, anecdotal, scientific, always interesting and delivered with the same humility demonstrated in the show Jeremy communicates his passion and motivation in a clear concise way that is educational and equally inspiring. As an angler there are many suggestions which will improve my fishing for english coarse fish. Thankfully Jeremy has avoided any kind of irony in the reading of his book, which any angler will attest is quite an achievement. Rather he has used his scientific background to write his observations and experiences in a presentable way but completely infused with his angling skills and (common sense) approach to fishing worldwide. Well worth a listen/read.

Mince
It was mince. It was mince. It was mince. It was mince. It was mince. It was mince. It was so much mince. Even the bits that weren’t mince were mince

Disappointing
I went by the title and good reviews, but struggled to get through it. Just don't understand the point of this book. It's a pile of very random stories, without any logical storyline, mixed up with random very basic tips and strange explanations of say breaking strengths of mono lines, next to results of studies and catfish predicting earthquake and so on. Kept wondering what was I even listening to
