Overrated psudoscience
This book was a pain to get through. The first part is a collection of inconsistent mumbo jumbo, like, if you show angry emotions to rice in a jar of water, it will rot. The other part is just obvious stuff scrambled together.

A comprehensive guide for anyone to understand why you struggle to talk to anyone and how to overcome it!
I thought I knew and understood my own limitations when it comes to talking effectively to anyone, yet this book highlighted for me two key aspects I didn’t know about: the power of the unconscious mind, and perception. These have shed a whole new light.
It’s clear that the Author’s background in NLP, years of coaching and presenting have brought together what I feel is lacking in other books like this. Understanding the brain is key to be able to use the excellent tools in Part 2.

References to Figures with no explanation
Good book with scientific approach that will teach you a long run skills rather than just giving the tips.
Only downside of listening to it rather than reading was related to the Figures (images) in the book. For example, when explaining zones of each person during conversation, it was referred like “each person has these zones as showed on Figure X” without actually explaining what is on that Figure X in details (where these zones are).

Hugely useful book and audio book
I have enjoyed listening to this book as it brings together multiple strands of knowledge into a useful set of tools with a solid theoretical underpinning.
My only small gripe is the authors other book on body language was referenced too many times, especially if you are listening to the audiobook in a few longer sittings. Then again, they say that repetition is the mother of skill.

Relatable and interesting
Found this very interesting with lots of science based reasoning, every day examples and personal experiences. Will definitely listen to more of Derek’s books as he has a very relatable style and is down to earth and easy to understand.

Maybe useful tips, but dubious science
I'm having a hard time getting through this book. I agree with the author that domain knowledge is more valuable than tips and tricks, but I fail to see how a defence of highly contested experiments on "plants have feelings" is at all useful here.
Because the claims are so extraordinary I cannot really continue until I've vetted the sources myself, and reading scientific articles outside my area of expertise just to get through a self-help book was not why I bought this one.
In general, the scientific references the author uses seem misplaced (not just the plants one). there are definitely some threats to generalizability (assuming something also works for related things) going on here.

Derek oh Derek
I highly recommend all Dereks books ! Information packed with the basics but basics people seem to not know. As well the book being packed with a lot of science explaining everything. Easy to understand and follow. I Guarantee if you purchase this book you’ll be thankful. If you did not go seek medical care for being stupid.
