Summary

From tuberculosis to bird flu and HIV to coronavirus, these infectious diseases share a common origin story: human interaction with animals. Otherwise known as zoonotic diseases for their passage from animals to humans, these pathogens - both preexisting ones and those newly identified - emerge and reemerge throughout history, sparking epidemics and pandemics that have resulted in millions of deaths around the world.

How did these diseases come about? And what - if anything - can we do to stop them and their fatal march into our countries, our homes and our bodies? In How to Survive a Pandemic, Dr Michael Greger, Physician and internationally recognised expert on public health issues, delves into the origins of some of the deadliest pathogens the world has ever seen. Tracing their evolution from the past until today, Dr Greger spotlights emerging flu and coronaviruses as he examines where these pathogens originated, as well as the underlying conditions and significant human role that have exacerbated their lethal influence to large and even global levels.

As the world grapples with the devastating impact of the novel coronavirus 2019, Dr Greger reveals not only what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones during a pandemic, but also what human society must rectify to reduce the likelihood of even worse catastrophes in the future.

Thought provoking and terrifying

If you are worried about Covid19 do not get this. This is a no bs look at the very real possibility of the h5n1 avian flu virus becoming airborne, and with a 60% mortality, making COVID19 look cuddly in comparison.

A must read!

a clearly written and we'll read narration on the current crisis, and it's beginning. A wake up call that this could pale into insignificance if we do not act as a major far more frightening pandemic is on its way. Gives insight on what needs to be done to stop this or at least reduce the risk.
if concerns about your health and environment were not enough this should make you think seriously about the consumption of meat particularly poultry produced on an industrial scale.

Great work!

Another great work by Dr. Michael Greger. There should be a movie documentary made on this book.

Michael Greger, and all involved...wow! Thank you.

I can not express fully the value of this book. You must buy it, you must listen to it and you must digest it. You must tell people you love to do the same. Then we must all do something about it. Eternally grateful to all involved. Priceless. ( as with How Not To Die and How Not To Diet also ) Within a month of listening to each book, my life is altered for the better in a way I wish for every being on the planet. Brilliant.

Must Read

Good arguments well presented - though I doubt 'Big Chicken' will buy it - so we're all doomed - unless we STOP EATING KFC AND CHICKEN NUGGETS FFS!

should be entitled why we caused a pandemic

Hard listen as our chickens are literally coming home to roost. spends almost 2/3rds of the book going over details of intensive farm processes.was hoping more optimism at the end
