Summary

Eddy Hart is back! The not-so-hard-boiled private investigator becomes involved in the 1940s Hollywood scene. When Eddy's old flame, now Hollywood's hottest star, needs help, Eddy finds himself investigating a blackmail scheme that involves mobsters, movie stars, corrupt politicians and businessmen, and an international assassin.

Through it all, Eddy has to sort out his feelings for his old flame, keep himself and his fiancée out of the gossip columns, and make sure he isn't the assassin's next victim.

Where was this farm of his? Mars?

War is sweeping Europe but the U.S. Isn't yet involved officially. In Hollywood, Eddy Hart P.I. Is engaged to be married to his confident and clever partner, Claire. He's never met any other members of her family, they are farmers from Idaho, and doesn't want to do so, either. So when her gauche brother ('The runt of the litter') turns up and he's asked by Claire to look after him, it's all a little bit awkward, especially when the latest case Eddy's investigating just happens to involve the gorgeous Hollywood starlet Marsha Rivers, the girl he'd loved and who broke his heart.

This delightfully comedic mystery is great fun with some notably enjoyable figures, from brother Dexter to sleazy lawyer Gottleib, and from Johnson, the Malibu house butler with connections to the London Home Office, to Miss Trixie, secretary receptionist at Eddy's office, stunningly beautiful but lacking much in the brain area. But Hollywood Hart is also a crime thriller, with noir written on every page. It would make a delicious film crime caper
Narration is by Jeff Holman, his voice perfectly suited to perform this drama. A pleasant timbre, well modulated and paced, giving seperate, sometimes outlandish, voices to all of the disparate protagonists. Great performance.

I was most fortunate in being freely gifted a complimentary copy of Hollywood Hart, by the rights holder, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. Although this is the second in a series of stories about P.I. Eddy Hart, it is completely stand alone and a truly fun read. Recommended.
