Josiah Flynts "Tramping with Tramps" (Auf der Fahrt mit Landstreichern) aus dem Jahr 1904 gilt als Standardwerk über die frühe Hobo-Kultur. Zehn Jahre lang hatte der Autor in den USA als Tramp unter anderen Tramps gelebt, war mit Hobos auf Güterzügen von Küste zu Küste gereist und hatte auch Ausflüge zu Vagabunden in Deutschland, England und Russland unternommen, um in deren Gesellschaft vergleichende Studien anstellen zu können.
