Summary

Rebels, rulers, scientists, artists, warriors, and villains.

Women are, and have always been, all these things and more.

Looking through the ages and across the globe, Anita Sarkeesian, founder of Feminist Frequency, along with Ebony Adams, PhD, have reclaimed 25 stories of remarkable women who dared to defy history and change the world around them.

From Mongolian wrestlers to Chinese pirates, Native American ballerinas to Egyptian scientists, Japanese novelists to British prime ministers, History vs Women will reframe the history that you thought you knew.

Essential

Ostensibly a YA history book, I loved it as a 41 year old Scottish bloke. Inspiring stories (and a few scary ones) of women throughout history, from all over the globe, who have not let the surrounding patriarchy define them. I was a bit worried that they'd be too kind to Thatcher, but I needn't have been: their take was alright with me (she's in the Villains section).

When my kids are old enough, I'll nudge them towards it, but it's essential for any age.
