About this listen

Can a Highland fling stir a culinary passion into lasting love?

Dean Fraser traded his football dreams for cooking when injury struck. He's now got a shot at becoming the new chef at Castle Largleith, despite his lack of experience. Working at the Michelin-starred restaurant in the picturesque Scottish Highlands could change his entire life and help him escape the clutches of his cheating ex-boyfriend.

Hot-headed Executive Chef Ewan Grant is bidding farewell to the career that cost him his lover. To atone for the suffocating guilt eating away at his life's passion, he's determined to fulfil his late partner's bucket list. First, he needs to find the perfect replacement chef.

When Ewan conducts a series of cooking competitions to find the right fit, the underdog ex-footballer takes him by surprise. Dean's unlikely culinary talent brings a storm of emotions into the kitchen. Sparks fly between them, and an illicit attraction ignites more than the sizzling hotplates. But acting on it could ruin Ewan's reputation and Dean's chance at the job of a lifetime.

Struggling to resist the tempting flavours of forbidden love, their whirlwind affair threatens both of their dreams. Can they navigate the treacherous waters of romance without sacrificing what they both need? Or will their passion leave them with a taste too delicious to resist?

Highland Fling is a forbidden lovers, age gap, found family standalone novel in the steamy contemporary Flying into Love MM romance series, featuring a fiery Scottish chef too used to his own way and a determined ex-footballer desperate to prove he’s more than a pretty face.

“A sizzling tale of culinary passion, unexpected connections, and the irresistible allure of Highland heat!”

A very tasty forbidden romance adventure

Story: Yum! Another amazing trip to a beautiful location and another riveting story.
Among the Scottish fields and with a backsplash of an old castle, we get a really tasty story of a culinary competition and a super scorching chemistry. I absolutely loved the connection between Ewan and Dean!
CF White created a brilliant story of the right man wrong time variety.
Fair warning though: reading on an empty stomach is at your own risk!
Narration: Impeccable performance as usual! This author - narrator duo is a perfect match!

Cooking, kilts, and kisses—I just loved this!!

A fantastic addition to a great series! Eager to get away from his cheating ex-boyfriend, Dean Fraser enters a cooking competition to become the new chef at Castle Largleith, a Michelin star restaurant and guesthouse in the Scottish Highlands, hoping to work alongside his long-time hero, Chef Ewan Grant. Dean has experience in his parents’ greasy spoon and his own gourmet food truck, but he knows it’s a long shot coming up against so many highly trained chefs. Still hurting from the loss of his long-time partner, Chef Ewan Grant is tired of being surrounded by sycophantic chefs so Dean’s straight-talking Essex ways, good looks, and footballer’s build are just what he needs. But how can he keep the contest fair and professional when he can’t keep his hands off Dean?

I absolutely loved this age-gap romance: a high-stakes cooking comp, a cute footballer, a hot man in a kilt, and stolen tender moments when nobody’s looking—tick, tick, tick, and double-tick!!! The two guys work so well together. Dean is a great underdog with intuitive experience rather than cooking education while Ewan is the bossy top dog but a wounded puppy underneath. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Abigail, Dean’s sister with Down syndrome. 🎧 Of course, no CF White book would be complete without the expert narration of Piers Ryman, his Essex and Scottish accents were wonderfully rich!! He knows just when to push the emotion or the humour.

The strength of Dean x

Another beautiful and endearing story from CF White, sometimes sad, sometimes happy, ending in an emotional tangle that's not an easy fix.

Let me tell you what I especially loved: the incredible detail provided by CF that puts you right in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland where the story is set, just beautiful; also, you could almost see and taste the delicious food that was prepared by the chefs, literally made my mouth water. The romance between Dean and Ewan is certainly steamy, their connection jumps from the page, but considering Ewan 's plan it's certainly a massive mistake.

I enjoyed Dean so much, I liked his straightforwardness, and his honesty. Ewan, on the other hand, initially rubbed me up the wrong way, he's so cold, rude and abrasive, with so much baggage that it impacted his actions big time. Both Dean and Ewan's pasts are still very present, and in a way, the story is a journey of them both coming to terms with things they couldn't control, so they can eventually move forward. However, an awful lot of emotion and heartbreak is experienced before this happens , talk about a rollercoaster! I did ultimately grow to respect Ewan, the way in which he gave himself over to Dean at the end of the book was just beautiful. However, Dean remains my favourite, I loved how he was willing to take a chance on a new adventure, and finding success on his own terms. It's a lovely story about finding yourself before giving in to love.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this serie and its much better in audio, the smells of the good in this one, the characters totally come to life.

MM - Scottish Chef meets Essex

How lucky was I to get an arc copy of this book?

Although this is number 6 in the series, this book can be read as a stand-alone.

I love how CF White writes; you feel immersed in the characters and story. This is true of each of her books. Her characters always have complex backgrounds that pull you in and make you feel that you know these people and have a connection with them.

We first meet Dean Fraser, an ex-footballer whose dreams ceased after an accident on the pitch, but his second passion, cooking, has brought him on a plane to Scotland.

Chef Ewan Grant has a lot of emotional baggage and is a force in the kitchen. He's searching for the next brilliant chef to run his castle's kitchen.

Brilliant writing, loving these books. I recommend you read this book and the whole series.

That was where my review ended when I read the book. Now, having listened to the book narrated by Piers Ryman, wow, he brought it to life.

So, it arrived in my Audible account. Did I wait at all? Nope, I listened straight away.

Seriously, I would listen to Piers Ryman read me the washing instructions from a duvet.

Excellent narration, although I did speed him up, but very slightly. I highly recommend this book, the audio version, and the whole series. Use up your credits today.
