As the old sailor's adage goes, a woman on board invites bad luck, a superstition that turned out to be true for the enemies of notorious pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. As quick to draw their cutlasses as they were to fall in love, Anne and Mary sailed the Caribbean leaving a trail of looted treasure, outfoxed law enforcement, and treacherous ex-lovers (suitably dealt with) in their wake.
Born hundreds of miles apart, both Anne and Mary were disguised as boys in their childhoods to escape poverty, propriety and disgrace, only to find freedom on the high seas. Anne, a poor fit for polite society, kicks her treacherous husband to the curb to turn pirate with the dashing Captain Jack. Meanwhile, Mary endures navy and army life disguised as a boy before being captured by pirates.
When Mary and Anne’s worlds collide a love affair between the two ensues and adventure beckons - the Governor and Anne’s spurned husband continue to hunt them across the oceans, but even the shadow of the gallows couldn’t darken the blazing spirits of these incredible women somehow mostly forgotten by history.
This series explores themes of equality, freedom, love and survival. Ultimately it is a story about the determination to live fully and freely without the limitation of gender, class or society - a life without restraint.

A really enjoyable, emotional, funny and dramatic pirate adventure. The performances were brilliant, story unique and original and had me hooked from the first minute. Couldn’t recommend this highly enough. Well done to all involved!!

Absolutely Breathtaking!
A thrilling drama, brilliantly acted and produced. One of the best audiobooks I’ve heard since Scarlet City. More of these please Audible! I was gripped from start to finish!

Wow! I loved this perfect pirate story.
The sound effect were brilliant and actors created great characters. It was full of funny and sad moments. I hope there will be a sequel! 🤞🏼

Excellent, production and several storylines running through it
A different story than I would usually choose but enjoyed it. Very clear acting voices and convincing background sounds. I wanted to keep listening, very entertaining and draws on different emotions. Celebrates difference in relationshipsand culture.

Fabulous
I really loved this production- had me gripped from start to finish. Really evocative of the times and the characters were well fleshed out. Really recommend giving it a listen

Rough and ready language but engaging story . I listened while walking dog and decorating bathroom. Perfect and kept my nose to the grindstone. penny

Something different
I enjoyed listening to HelL Cats. It is something different to the usual audio books and very wejll portrayed by all the readers. One doesn’t know what to expect next and it didn’t disappoint.

Absorbing and eloquent writing. Wonderfully performed in this audiobook
The text in the first couple of volumes can descend into spiralling narration that was a challenge to follow at times but during dialogue between characters it is a delight. Absorbing and eloquent and brilliantly performed as an audiobook.
