Summary
She was the one woman I couldn’t resist...
Half past 30 and still single, my father rode my ass daily about getting married, starting a family, and looking the part. I needed to soften my enforcer image and have the outward appearance that I was on the straight and narrow.
When I argued that I wasn't ready to settle down, he explained that no one ever was, and none of them ever did...with a wink. I laughed until I thought about my mother. I might be a tough guy in a dangerous world, but I wanted a woman who could handle me at my worst and positively adore me at my best. Was that so much to ask of a wife?
There'd only ever been one girl who came close to that: Marla. She was plenty tough herself. She had to be. She grew up in the world as well. And when she came to me asking for help to avenge her brother’s death, I was more than happy to help...for a price.
Marriage. To me. A mafia capo...the very thing she swore she’d never do.

What a great storyline
I really enjoyed this storyline. I love how strong the leading lady is. She doesn’t put up with any crap. A brilliant performance from Lia.

PRETTY GOOD.. MORE HEART THAN DARK THOUGH
Mafia romances are my kryptonite and I’m usually mentally rubbing my hands in gleeful anticipation as I snap another up.. but I didn’t with this one and it took me several visits before I eventually bit the bullet because of the single female narration. I thought nope sorry, I like my bad boys to have drool-worthy sexy male voices. Don’t get me wrong, when I listened to it, Lia Langola did a great job with both the male and female point of view chapters, the plot-line and the feels.. however, I think this story would’ve been much more enjoyable with a good alpha male narrator. Just saying. Nevertheless, well done Lia, you did a great job and I was all in.. but to the Author/Audible, IMO this audiobook could’ve been so much more enticing if you’d included a male narrator for the male POVs.
When it comes to the Mafia hierarchy food chain, Marla Preston and her Russian born family are fairly low on it.. however, she bravely confronts the handsome heir to the Mafia throne Capo Vincent Russo (aka Vince) for his help in finding out who brutally murdered her brother. Then she wants the vengeance she swore she’d get as her brother lay dying. But, the pull and chemistry she feels when she seeks Vince’s help, has her making a two-way deal that will change both their lives. Because Vince needs a wife.. and who better to fit that role than the feisty, strong, determined, sexy, beautiful woman who knows this Mafia world and who is confidently challenging, confronting and demanding his help. Their mutually beneficial friction-filled agreement will be their first step. Having like-minded dirty sexual tastes will be their second step. And the class challenges, bitter betrayals, wicked revelations and justified vengeance will be their third, fourth, fifth and sixth steps in gaining each other’s trust, loyalty, support.. and love.
Worth a credit? Let me see.. okay, it really should’ve had both a male and female narrator.. however Lia Langola’s narration was great. Okay, it’s pretty much ‘insta’ and unrealistic.. but I didn’t really mind that. And okay, I could pick a flaw or two.. HOWEVER I did still enjoy this entertaining listen.. so yes, I’m going to say creditworthy.
