Summary
Dr. John E. Sarno, author of the revolutionary book Mind Over Back Pain, is a medical pioneer whose program has helped patients overcome their back conditions- without drugs or dangerous surgery. Now, using his latest research into TMS, Dr. Sarno goes one step further. After identifying stress and other psychological factors in back pain, he demonstrates how many of his patients have then gone on to heal themselves without exercise or other physical therapy.
Discover why self-motivated and successful people are prone to TMS, how anxiety and repressed anger trigger muscle spasms, how people "train themselves" to experience back pain, and how you may get relief from back pain within two to six weeks by recognizing TMS and its causes.

The only book you'll ever need to heal back pain
I was a little skeptical when I first started listening to this book, as I had suffered from back pain (fibromyalgia) for many years and tried countless treatments. As I listened to Dr. John Sarno's narration, I identified with everything he said. It was like he was describing me ??? my personality, my pain, and my pattern of symptoms and associated treatments. I threw all the treatments in the bin, said goodbye to my physiotherapist, and gradually got better within months.
Listen to Dr. Sarno, listen to your inner self, and you WILL recover from back pain without anything else but this book and a lot of patience. Good luck.

Save yourself
Save yourself, turn away from this dull, poorly written, laborious book, before it’s too late. This is essentially a pamphlet with one idea at its centre, repeated ad nausea, with long rambling tangents that explain why opposing ideas are incorrect. I can give you everything this book has in one line. Ready? Here you go; Your back pain isn’t physical, it’s psychological, most likely caused by repressed anger. That’s it, that’s all you’re getting. Personally, I’m on board with his thinking, so much so that I was open to the idea when he first presents it in the first few pages. I spent the rest of the book waiting to discover what to do with this dusty nugget of knowledge. While repeating it over and over he occasionally let’s slip a couple of clues about seeking out a psychotherapist, but also insists that most people won’t need it, and his program will be enough. I can only assume that his ‘programme’ is drip fed to us in a later book, which confirms that this book is, like I said, a pamphlet, promoting him and his single idea, without giving us any therapeutic information or guidance. Don’t waste your time or energy on it.

Life Changing
I have suffered form chronic back pain for 8 years, I have never received a diagnosis despite the crippling pain I experience and multitude of tests I have undertaken.
I have listened to this book 3 times now and I can confidently say my pain has dramatically reduced since doing so.
I do not believe I am out of the woods just yet, but I am certainly on the right track.
I would recommend this book to anyone suffering with pain even if the cause has been identified, as this may help you rethink the way you fight/cope with the pain!!

Book doesn't deliver on the title promise
The contents of this book does not match the title. Most of the book can be summarized as this: your back pain is in your head. Loads of fluff and padding, but that's it. Your repressed emotions cause your back pain. I kept waiting for the "Healing your back pain" part. When it came - about fifteen minutes worth in the last half-hour of the book - it amounted to this: ignore your back pain. And if that doesn't work, get therapy.
I was sorry to have spent a full credit on this.

Essential listening for any back pain sufferer
This is Doctor Sarno's first major back pain book. A great place to start but make sure you also read or listen to some of the more modern titles.

Fantastic book
Would you listen to Healing Back Pain again? Why?
I've listened to it lots of times. It was easy to listen to, with the author having a great reading voice and very well structured. Complicated process's were explained in a very detailed way and I could understand the concepts that were being presented properly.
Most importantly the book has helped me to heal my back pain and tension heartaches. I would recommend this to anyone.

Very little substance
Writer has an I know it all, I figured out everything myself approach. Even though he has some interesting, possibly useful ideas, his approach, which frequently dismissing science is worrying. Also about 70% of the book he talks about persuading audience his method is best compared to everything else out there, including any scientific explanation for pain. In the rest of the book, he doesn’t fully explain his method but talks about how his method potentially will help to some hypothetical clients. All I could understood what his method is that it is a type of talk therapy. There is very little substance to the book as it reveals very little about his method.

No i don't have TMS
I thought this was going to help and be about helping to heal or at least maintain back pain, i have a trapped nerve(crushed by scar tissue from surgery)This is the cause of my back pain. This is a book about TMS that is all about your pain being an extension of troubled life.I have an actual diagnosis so this entire book did not help at all. This book is for pain that has no real physical cause. My pain has a physical so this book was as useful as a chocolate fire guard to me.
Be warned if you have a diagnosis for the cause of your pain don't bother with this book.
