Really glitchy audiobook

This was a good, solid if not slow story. The narration was good (Wexford’s voice was spot on from the TV version) and the characters felt real, although there were many to hold on to and I got confused at times.
However, the recording itself is terrible. There are gaps, repeated sentences, a whole portion of the book which skips forward like a CD and parts that begin mid sentence. The chapters bear no relation the assigned chapter points so it’s hard to navigate if you need to go back. Really awful editing together - needs re doing!

Classic Rendall well narrated

excellent plot with several sub plots all wonderfully intertwined and perfectly resolved. The narration is excellent with good use of a range of voices and accents.

Good but not her best...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It's worth a listen. But I was disappointed that it dealt with such a serious subject like domestic violence in such a predictable, slightly old-fashioned way. The victims were all women, the aggressors all male. Would have made it more interesting to have had just one case where the genders were reversed...

What about Nigel Anthony’s performance did you like?

Well-paced.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

In a similar ilk to other Wexford novels.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed Regs dilemma over his relationship with his two daughters and him coming to terms with finding one much harder to get on with than the other

Brain teaser

As usual an excellent story you think you know the outcome but the ending is always a surprise. I would encourage all lovers of crime stories to read this book

An excellent performance

As usual the narrator gives an excellent performance, making each character different and easy to distinguish.
It is read with thought, care and conviction for the enjoyment of the listener.
When looking for audio books I always look for this particular narrator, as his style and diction are so precise.

Too Long

I love other Inspector Wexford stories but this one rambled with too much description. Obvious who did it 2 hours before the end. Always very good narration though.

Horrendous

Love Ruth Rendell..but not this book wayyyy to long to many characters to keep track of none of them you can love or hate so therefore I didn’t care what happened to them or frankly the book , also too many plot threads trying to keep track of them was as easy as platting fog, gave up on chapter 5 …don’t waste your money or credit

Another brilliant story

Again a superb story with many twists and turns, and with excellent narration. I just about remember her tv shows. These books are wonderful

Addictive

The plots draws you in, Wexford at his best good old fashioned police work with the right results
