About this listen

Harbour Street is the sixth book in Ann Cleeves’s Vera Stanhope series – which is now a major ITV detective drama starring Brenda Blethyn as Vera.

A silent community. A murderer among them . . .

As the snow falls in Newcastle, Detective Joe Ashworth and his daughter Jessie travel home on the busy Metro. When the train stops unexpectedly due to bad weather, Jessie notices that one woman doesn’t leave and when trying to wake her they find that the passenger has been fatally stabbed.

With no witnesses DI Vera Stanhope looks into the victim’s past and discovers she lived for years on Harbour Street, in a rundown Northumberland fishing town. As she questions the local residents Vera begins to suspect they know more than they are letting on, and the killer is hiding in their midst.

Enjoy more of Vera Stanhope’s investigations with The Crow Trap, Telling Tales, Hidden Depths, Silent Voices, The Glass Room, The Moth Catcher, The Seagull and The Darkest Evening.

This was a great story , well written and loved the narrator.
I’m surprised they haven’t done this one for the tv it kept me guessing right until the end.

Great book

a most lightweight but most enjoyable read. The narrator was fine but needs to study a southern accent.

enjoyable

A good story not the best but a few twists. Narrator brilliant. A good listen I would recommend

Great story line, Some of the accents not quite hitting the mark, but still a very enjoyable listen

The usual good Ann Cleeves story but the narrator wasn’t that good a fit. Apart from the slightly dodgy accents (I’ve heard worse) it was narrated a bit like a childrens story. I half expected her to say ‘once upon a time’ and goodnight children, don’t have bad dreams at the end. She has a lovely soothing voice and I’d be happy to listen to her narrating different material

Odd narration

Enjoyed everything about this book
From the plot, characterisation to the wonderful narration. Full of intriguing but flawed characters.

Brilliant as usual
