About this listen
A classic Christie mystery. Read by Hugh Fraser who plays Hugh Fraser in the popular TV series. At a Hallowe’en party, Joyce – a hostile thirteen-year-old – boasts that she once witnessed a murder. When no-one believes her, she storms off home. But within hours her body is found, still in the house, drowned in an apple-bobbing tub. That night, Hercule Poirot is called in to find the ‘evil presence’. But first he must establish whether he is looking for a murderer or a double-murderer…

Excellent as expected
Great story as expected from the worlds greatest murder mystery writer. Well narrated too! I binged the whole thing in about a day! I will be running out of credits at this rate, but so worth it! Onto the next Agatha Christie!

Good, but slightly predicatable
Unfortunately, while I love the Poirot books, I do feel as Christie got older her creative imagination did falter a little, and I was able to half guess the solution about half way through which is a cardinal sin for a detective novel; the reader should never feel more intelligent than Poirot! However, you may have noticed I said half guessed as there was still a little twist, and therefore I still rate this reasonably.

Outstanding!
Hugh Fraser demonstrates great vocal talents and brings the characters to life in this version - without the full cast recording.
My first listen to this particular mystery and a great treat it was.
I thoroughly recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing afternoon/ evening with familiar characters you look forward to meeting again.

Enjoyable
One of Agatha’s later books and still enjoyable. Read it in the 70’s and was a joy to have it read to me by the brilliant “Hastings”. Not too taxing and enjoyed while dog walking.

Always enjoyable.
I love Hugh Fraser as narrator. At first I thought this story was going to be too ‘modern’ for my liking, but I soon warmed to it. Lots of clues that all made sense in the end

In the Detail
This tale has the quality of Hercule Poirot’s mind: the step-by-painstaking-step, detail-by-detail building of the solution to the mystery:”Who killed Joyce?”. With the obvious proviso that it will be Poirot and not ourselves, who deduces the answer. No-one can rival his powers of deduction, and we are happy, unthinking, to be led… . Here lies our security as bystanders. But this is not a blow by blow action drama, which would be easier. This is the genius of Agatha Christie.

Another good who-done-it
I am a big fan of Agatha Christie's novels. Hugh Fraser does a really good job of bringing the characters to life and telling this story with easy expertise.

Ties up well in the end!
loved the book, has a very satisfying ending but the foreign accents in the voice acting sound forced

Predictably brilliant
it is everything I expected and more! If I hadn't already known the villains I would most certainly have never guessed the outcome
