Hera is in her mid-twenties, which seems young to everyone except people in their mid-twenties.

Since leaving school, she has been trying to kick and scream into existence a life she cares about, but with little success so far.

Until she meets Arthur.

He works with her, he is older than her, he is also married. But in her soulless office - the large cold room she feels destined to spend her life in - he is a source of much-needed sustenance.

And though Hera has previously dated women, she soon falls headlong into a workplace romance that will quickly consume her life.

Laugh-out-loud funny, deeply moving and whip-smart, Green Dot is a story about the terrible allure of wanting something that promises nothing and the winding, torturous, often hilarious journey we take in deciding who we are and who we want to be.

Full of depth, harrowingly realistic and very well written

Harrowingly realistic portrayal of the main character’s perspective, the emotion is tangible throughout. Very clever writing, to be able to get across such variations of subtlety and strength of the feelings and thoughts of the character in each moment. Really impressed with the whole book. I enjoyed the narrator and at times found her voice a bit grating, yet once I got used to it (sounded better after reducing the listening speed), I think that the narrator’s articulation was perfect for getting across the character’s intricate emotions.

Amazing reading- very convincing

A surprisingly fresh take on a tale as old as time. The performance brings the Australian context to life completely.

Heartbreak

Sometimes this seemed lightweight and not for a person of my mature years. But the description of heartbreak, longing, the pointlessness and pain of trying to live without the person who is 'bad' for you yet makes life worthwhile is painfully accurate.

Truly felt the heartbreak

I loved this book, the feeling of all consuming love and the sadness of heartbreak. The narrator was fabulous.

A modern take on a tale as old as time.

This has to be a true story. Both main characters are so believable. The narrator is perfect and adds to the feeling that you are listening to a friend recounting a life lesson.

Interesting take on this side of the story

Some other reviewers say they didn’t think the main character wasn’t likeable or that her character developed over the course of the story. I think that’s the point of this book. Lessons to be learnt as a listener.

Every mistress should read this masterpiece.

The cliche that ‘he’ll never leave his wife’, is often the manta that friends will drum into any friend who is the unfortunate ‘other woman’. As an ex-wife of a serial adulterer l can confirm that wives will often forgive a floundering husband once but if the said partner keeps lying (because it’s the lies that cut deep not the infidelity), eventually they will walk away. Then the mistress can have him. Rarely do men ditch a good thing. Hera tries her hardest to sway her new lover, work colleague Arthur to walk away from his wife, Kate. Giving every excuse under the sun, this selfish man clearly knows all the right things to say at the right time. What many mistresses fail to realise is that men that cheat are happy at home but they miss the lust side of a relationship and by taking on a mistress they have the benefit of both. Yes, Arthur probably does love Hera, but does he love her enough?
Do read this fantastic debut novel.
A worthy five-star review.

Well written and narrated

It’s very well written and a very accurate depiction of the situation, it’s just that nothing really happens except for the obvious.

Al lot of whining

At times insightful and funny, unfortunately over shadowed by a lot of whining. Therefore overall somewhat disappointing.
