Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian is the unforgettable story of young Willie Beech, evacuated to the country as Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War. A sad, deprived child, he slowly begins to flourish under the unlikely care of grumpy old Tom Oakley. But then his new-found happiness is shattered by a summons from his mother to come back to London. As the weeks pass by, Tom begins to worry when William doesn't answer his letters, so he goes to London to find him, and there makes a terrible discovery.

Such a feel good story
I'd forgotten about this book. Glad I found it again. The narrator does the voices in a way that feels good, not abrasive and easy to listen to even when you're sleepy.

Childhood in all its pain and glory
This is a splendid story of a small boy abused by a mad mother who finds himself evacuated from London to the countryside to escape the anticipated bombings of WWII. In a small village he slowly painfully blossoms with the help not of an old man himself nursing the pain of lost love but of other children and local adults full of generosity and ordinary kindness. It is not self-indulgently sentimental but truthful about all of the characters learning to face their own limitations and the need for courage.

Perfect evening listening for two OAP's
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed being taken back in time while listening to Goodnight Mr Tom on audible. We both cried in parts. It was thrilling to be transported into Williams world. Excellent voice reading it.

Wonderful story ruined by the narrator
Terrible narrator - makes Will sound whiny. This is such a fabulous story but I struggled to finish it.

wonderful book
i really love this book but it is sad that Zach died and Will has to suffer though. i think this book is suitable for ages 9 and above. i even cried while reading. i hope you guys will consider to read this. i already told my friend about it. i bet when she reads this book she will love it. ok we are getting off topic but the main point is that this is a really really nice and amazing book so i hope someone will continue reading this adventure with William Beech!

Happy!!
Good book! good book! I love this and sad in parts and also happy! I love it.
This was written by my ten year old daughter. She tells me she liked this book more than Harry Potter, which is very high praise! We enjoyed listening to it every evening before bed and I have to admit, I loved it too. It is a beautifully written book and the reader does a wonderful job.
