Story
Sixteen years is a long time. In a marriage, it’s a milestone. On the gridiron, it’s a miracle. Reed Johnson wants more time for everything, but time is funny that way. It can be cruel. With a body that can’t quite take the hits it used to and a heart tired of being torn in two different directions, Reed is faced with a reality he’s not quite ready for - life without the game. He became a man under Friday night game lights and in college stadium tunnels, and without the grit and the glory that’s earned 10 yards at a time, he’s afraid of what kind of man he’ll be.

Story
When I left for college, I put 1,000 miles between my future and my past. I'd made a choice - I was going to cross back to the other side, to live with the living. I just didn't know how. And then I met Nate Preeter. An All-American baseball player, Nate wasn't supposed to notice a ghost-of-a-girl like me. But he did. He shouldn't want to know my name. But he did. And when he learned my secret and saw the scars it left behind, he was supposed to run. But he didn't.

They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed to save, but I know who saved me. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe. And then he disappeared. I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things - they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed... until the new boy.

Nico Medina's world is 11 miles away from mine. During the day, it's a place where doors are open - where homes are lived in, and neighbors love. But when the sun sets, it becomes a place where young boys are afraid, where eyes watch from idling cars that hide in the shadows and wicked smoke flows from pipes. West End is the kind of place that people survive. It buries them - one at a time, one way or another. And when Nico was a little boy, his mom always told him to run.

Trust me when I say that Rowan Michaels fever is alive and well at Western University. His fanbase is legendary. The guy is a major player. Both on and off the field. Girls fall all over themselves to be with him. They fill the stands at football practice, show up at parties he’s rumored to be at, and basically stalk him around campus. It’s a little nauseating. Don’t these girls have any self-respect when it comes to a hot guy? Fine...I’ll admit it, he’s good looking. If you’re into that kind of thing. Which I’m not.

Mia Stanbury is the quintessential girl next door: smart, beautiful, and determined. She’s got it all going on. Is it any wonder that she’s been on my radar for as long as I can remember? We’re talking middle school, folks. I’ll admit that I’ve made a few boneheaded mistakes as far as she’s concerned, but what can I say? I’m a dude. Sometimes I think with the wrong head. We’ll just chalk it up to one of the hazards of having a Y chromosome and leave it at that.

Holy moly, what an angst fest!
I cannot lie, this was angst fest taken to another level and everything but Tatum was thrown in the mix (oh wait, she was there at one point 😬).
There was a lot of miscommunication (and non-communication) between Reed and Nolan. My heart broke for them, and I was crying my eyes out at the end!
Buck Johnson stole my heart just a little more too!
And Nolan’s besties are what every girl needs! Seriously, they held these two together, but always had their girl’s back and even when it came to telling her some hard home truths.
Reed’s POV didn’t take away from the angst but it certainly made him less of a hot mess as he’s been in their High School Days.
I enjoyed the narration from both narrators.

Audio crack!
Seriously, this series is so addicting! It’s like a soap opera - with all the drama and angst and villains and heroes. And I can NOT get enough of it!
I fell so in love with Nolan and Reed’s story in Waiting on the Sidelines And was so happy to get more of them in Going Long. The ride was just as bumpy this time as it was in the first book, but I never wanted it to end. I mean, I maybe sometimes wanted to give them a good shake, but I still rooted for them every step of the way.
Emotional and compelling and beautifully narrated, this was another huge Ginger Scott got for me!

Going Long
Book 1 was Nolan and Reed in High School and how they came to be.
This book is all about College, which I loved. But boy oh boy was I frustrated with the lack of COMMUNICATION!!! I can’t tell you how many times I threw my hands up in the air and yelled would you two just TALK to one another.
But it makes for an interesting book right because I couldn’t put it DOWN nope I couldn’t I was sucked in wanting to know what the heck was going to happen next.
LOVED that we had 2 narrators <3 I really think James did an awesome job I already loved Laura’s performance from book 1 so it stands she does a great job in book 2.

Growing Pains
After the first installment of this series it took me a couple of weeks to go back to it because I had to digest the teenage angst of book 1. Now let me start by saying what a wonderful job these narrators do. Again, Laura Darnell narrated a convincing Nolan and I was extremely impressed with the male narrator, James Fouhey who I hadn't heard before. On to the story of GOING LONG...
Remember how I told you in my review for WAITING ON THE SIDELINES that I was conflicted about Reed? He SO redeemed himself. He was understanding, adoring and an all around good boyfriend for his girl. He isn't perfect so he makes a few mistakes along the way but that's alright - nothing was bad enough to make me feel anger towards him as I did in Waiting on the Sidelines.
Nolan had to go through so much. To me, it was perfectly understandable why she needed to come to terms with the events in her life until she could talk to Reed about it. At no point I felt there was a lack of communication on her side. In fact, it was again outside forces who led to their relationship hiatus and it's something that depressed me a little bit.
These two had to come to terms with tragedy and on top of that they have to deal with two douchebag characters who did nothing but stir up trouble. Look, I love my angst in books but I have to admit that this was a recurring theme. In the first book Ginger Scott gave us a girl who drove a wedge between Nolan and Reed. This time it's Gavin. I just thought it was a little too convenient and that it turned the angst into drama. And Reed's brother? I wanted to throw my phone against the wall!
All that notwithstanding I absolutely enjoyed GOING LONG. Ginger Scott really writes beautiful stories with likable characters. She let Nolan and Reed grow up in this installment and it's palpable how much they have grown. Now I hope that THE HAIL MARY will continue to impress me!

Good Book
This was a good book, it showed the importance of communication in any relationship is key. These two could have avoided many problems and heartaches if they asked questions when in doubt and not assumed anything. But you live and learn.

pretty damn perfect
This book ... its hard to put into words. It's real. Real life. You get frustrated, mad, sad, literally heartbreaking and I had tears but also beautiful, had my heart breaking and beating faster ... harder .. growing bigger. I felt the love and the growing of 2 characters as individual people and as a couple. I laughed and smirked with these characters. It brought real life issues and how we don't always respond or handle them the way we should or think we would. Simply put ... I loved it. It was pretty much perfection. Only made that much better and real with the believable age appropriate sounds of these 2 narrators. So much so I looked for more books by both of them. ❤️💕🥂👏👏👏👏

I found myself screaming at the characters for being so weak and stupid for not talking to each other when they are supposedly so in love.

Smiles and Tears
I loved it. I seriously wanted to strangle both of them and stop reading, but I needed to know what happened so I could hug them. My co-workers got a kick out of hearing me yell at them and call them stupid as I listened. In the end, I just wanted to hug them and got teary-eyed.
